I read up about the motor issues.
Read up on spec rules.(maybe in the future)
Any other issues?
Mods to consider?

Great choice. Suspension is paramount. If you're considering going to Spec Box eventually, you should use their specifications. First up should be shocks, springs, and sway bars...

No spec comments but the platform is terrific fun. Not sure about the 99 but my 02-s (not spec allowed) has many "bolt-on" suspension bits from its big brother. Engines have had issues with oil but baffles and drainpans seem to help. Only B*tch I have is that it is lacking grunt, but thats what the RSR guys say at 12-hrs when the LMP-1/2 go by

If you go spec check the book if you do not then change the entire front suspension with gt3 bits. HUGE difference. Also bump up the sways and drop-links and swap dampers for adjustables. Toss a cage in and you have a nice tidy fighter. + all the normal safety stuff and brake upgrades include cup front cooling ducts.
