The Re-gen filters kill mpg on new models. As I understand it, the unit dumps fuel into a chamber and burns at a very high temp. First time it happened I thought my truck was on fire, so for me whats worse flood fuel and burn to reduce discharge (and mpg) or take the filter off, flash the truck get 20mpg and void the warranty. Of course that is not allowed in USA

2005 Newmar 39 foot Diesel pusher.
8 mpg Highway 7mpg pulling my 24 foot enclosed pace trailer( 8000 pounds)
2005 Excursion diesel
17 mpg highway, 11 mpg towing same trailer as above.
My buddies new ford superduty with the 6,4 liter only got 9 mpg towing my trailer. Its brand new so not broken in but I don't think it will get much better. Those new particulate filters kill the milage... I think they use fuel to burn off the soot.

I think you are incorrect and succumbing to myth. See post #15 for an active comparison between Super Duties for a MY 06 and a MY 08. (13.6 versus 13.8 respectively).
I could care less about gas (diesel) mileage. It is what it is, and driven by utility; but let's base the comparisons on reality not myth!
Then, we can get into the Ford versus Chevy merits!

Honestly, I've never checked, and I never really got the whole obsession with MPG that some people have.
When it's empty, I fill up.
It might have something to do with the fact that I work out of my house (software development company), and I don't commute, but still... it shocks a lot of people when I say I have no freakin clue what my gas mileage is.
It could be because none of my vehicles are gas efficient in the least... 500hp 930, 1-ton turbo diesel tow vehicle, and a race car that runs on 110 octane.
Maybe if I knew what my gas mileage was, I'd break down crying and never go anywhere.

From: NC - One headlight capital of the world
Pulling a 20' enclosed, V-nosed, about 7000 lbs total at 'highway' speeds:
1. '06 Cayenne S: 11 mpg
Long live The Pig!!!
2. '08 RAM 3500 HD: 12.5 mpg
Mileage is down with the new Bluetec motors and the DPFs tend to clog up if you don't drive the truck enough. Exhaust brake on the new RAMs is a HUGE bonus.
