Sliders for a couple of reasons. Easier to get in and out with a Recaro pro seat (very high sides) and to allow other drivers for endurance racing.

I can get in and out of my extended headrest seats & over the cage (3 door bars) okay...but that is with a removable steering wheel....with the steering wheel in place...it would be VERY difficult

Used to have fixed seats on both sides. Drivers side now on Recaro sliders. Two driver car in the future here and we aren't both the same size. Minimal sacrifice of headroom, maybe .5-.75"

My seat isn't a halo seat and I need to remove the wheel to get out of the car easily.

That depends on the seat, driver, cage bars and car. it will make thing easer but might not eliminate the need for more room in order to get out in a hurry. A short legged guy in a 911 with a X bar is going to have a hard time even with a removable wheel. The seat will be covering a good portion of the doorway. Long legs and a farther back seat make it a bit easer to get out of most cars in my experience. Block the door shut and try and go out the window with a containment seat. From some of the cars I see at the track and during tech inspections a fast simple exit would not happen in any kind of a hurry. Add all the gear we use and things slow down even more.

Good compromise is key in safety systems. As with most things it depends on the setup. Tall thin guy, no door bar, single bar, low X or low nascar bars? Fix the seat. Your nickname is Stump and you have a 911 with a high X? sliders might have more to offer than they take away.

This was something I have been thinking on after working on a car with a fixed halo seat that gives me cramps during the 3 min it takes me to get in or out of. I came up with a quick release seat back brace and improved sliding base. No little sheet metal stampings and tabs and notches. Using industrial materials, positive verifiable racking locks on all 3 points and stronger than the seat or car with nearly fluid movement when unlocked. No slop when locked and a single lever for base and brace to slide back. Not for weight conscious GT cars for sure and not FIA tested so I don’t know if anyone would let run.

sparco dual lock sliders...

can't move seat back w/ pin in the seat back, but if I have help, someone can pull the pin for the seatback, then the seat will slide back 'some'.

-but the main reason is someone shorter (my gf) can drive it. seat moves forward easy...

I won't be able to make it. Will you show me around the track on the 23rd instead?
