Default ALMS 12 hrs of Sebring Official Entry List is Out

First "official" entry list just announced. Rhis will change between now and race day. http://www.americanlemans.com/Events...2009/Entry.pdf

So far only 2 VICI racing entries, and I wouldn't call these very reliable at this point as everything is "TBA". Also surprised that Rahal/Letterman is only running a single BMW.

3 entries in all of P2 . Rumor on another board was that one of the ex-Dyson Spyders would sell to a privateer team and be run with Porsche support. I don't see this as very likely but we can all hope.

P1 should be fun for Sebring, and suck the rest of the season. The only game all season long is GT2.

Wow, there could really be only 9 cars outside of GT2 after this race? That's aweful.

I'm starting to have some concern for the future of ALMS. If it werent for the anticipation of excitement in GT2, the outlook would be really grimm for this year.

They severely need to combine P1 and P2/GT1 and GT2 for just two classes. In this economy, I think that is the only thing that will work.

Hopefully this means there will be more than 3 minutes per hour of GT2 coverage.

Corvette will run GT2 post Le Mans, essentially killing GT1.

I agree with your comments regarding LMP classes, but with Acura spending big bucks to develop the new ARX-02a chassis, this is not likely. They'll be gunning for class wins in P1 and P2 each race as well as season and overall titles.

Chris,

Book a flight, pack a small tent and sleeping bag or grab one at a Walmart in FLA, or better yet jump in your car and drive from Kentucky. That way you will see live up close and personal coverage of everything. 25 more days till I jump on a plane for my second 12 hours.

Interesting that Joest and Audi North American are both running the R15. You would think that Joest would run both cars.

The list seems pretty optimistic at this point. On the plus side, LMP1 could be epic...for one race. By St Pete, ALMS will be lucky to field 20 cars. 16-18 car grids won't surprise me by mid-season. I'll be wishing for the "good old days" of 22 car fields (2006) when we all thought the sky was falling.

GM only fronts part of the bill I think, compuware does the rest I think, I think GM would rather go down than give up the 1v1 sausage fest in GT1.

But millions and millions were ignorantly waisted by GM developing a GTO-R, CTS-V-R, and G6R. A bunch of tube framed madness that sucked and didnt help sell any cars.

I think the World Challenge Caddies and tube frame G6/GTO Rolex cars are very cool racecars. I would much rather see manufacturers spending money developing new cars for road racing series that I enjoy watching than spending all of their racing budget on another Nascar program, where headlight decals are the only distinguishing feature on the car. Considering the fact that GM won championships with every single car you listed above, I certainly wouldn't call those programs failures.
