If it is a patch it can be removed. If it is embroidery you should cover it.

One school of thought is that the patches themselves are a concern. This is why many veterans use regular thread and a wide stitch. The theory is the stitch will burn off quickly and the patch will fall off.

Cut and pull, hope you are really patient......
As for care, I hear that the Molecule products are good but I have had great results with Woolite on a gentle cycle (with all zippers and velcros closed off). Hang dry, no fast spin cycles, ....
I jus had a Martha Stewart moment there
