Glass had a nasty habit of popping out too.

Even sandwich and tempered glass makes little shards that go all over in a wreck. On the other hand I could see where plastic in a street car would me a pain to keep in good condition.

True.

I've removed them going backwards:



and frontward:



I retrieved my rear-view mirror each time.

I was going fast enough in each instance that the windshield never touched the car.

There were no shards, only safety-glass beads.

Winshields might be cheap for pre 993 911's but if you track a 993 glass will cost you over $1100. Lexan was the obvious economical solution.
