I opened the oil pan and found what looks to be the X51 baffle system however it doesnt look like the ones pictured. The part # on the pan is
9961073109R which doesnt match the stock part # for MY 99-05 and the baffle is all plastic(composit) with rubber "doors" and the part # on it is 99710724300.
HELP

Tim,
If the baffle is black plastic it is a stock unit. If it is made of metal with rubber doors it is the X51 unit. There is zero way to tell from the outside because the bottom plate is 100% identical to both units.
There are very accurate pics on the 996 forum. PM me if you need any help.
I would stay away from the BK extension it is useless in my opinion. Look at Mantis Sport for their extension and oil pickup extension or check out what Jake is coming out with.

2005 996 schematic, the the baffle (#25) matches, but not the oil pan #. Pulled from a Russian language site, so even more baffling.

Paul,
The baffle part has a 997 part # and although its made of plastic it looks just like the X51 shown in all the posts. From what I've seen its not a stock 996/997 baffle but it is a stock 996 oil pan.

Tim,
I can assure you that 997.107.243.00 is not the same as the all metal X51 baffle. I did this same experiment last year. I ordered 2 baffles last winter with that part number and what came was something that looked nearly 100% identical to what came out of a 1999 996 3.4 motor and a 2003 996 3.6 motor.
The only way to obtain the x51 baffle is to order 996.107.243.40
Edit: this thread has some good pictures of the two side by side and makes for some good reason, towards the end I document the incorrect 997 part # showing up.
