The thing I really remember was you pulling into the pits every time you had an OTE or spun. It was an f'n race, not a DE... But I guess old habits were hard to break.

I still have video of you and I going at it in that race.

Mine too. My first mx race was in 1976 on an Indian 80. Good thing my bones were much younger then.

Yep, that was the first racing turn in the 996 Cup! BMW club race, first turn into Rattlesnake after the green & my first weekend behind the wheel with her. Still had the goofy taco wing & Bill's numbers on it. Thanks for posting it. I didn't have that shot

By 1975 I had been racing Penton's in New England enduros for 2 years and was about to buy my first Husqvarna - a WR250. At the time I weighed maybe 130 pounds so the Husky was a handleful. I went back to small bikes after that but by then they where KTM's - even on the east coast.

When I was senior in High School (1974) I would ride my street legal Penton 125 Six Day (on knobby tires with Preston Petty lights no less!) to school. All the guys who rode Yamahas and such thought I was nuts - "you paid $1125" for a 125?" And of course they had no idea what a potent woods weapon it was.

LOL - $1125 - when I was 17 that was a LOT of money!

Couple of moments there, seemed pretty lonely, though.
Were your mirrors full?

Penton! that's another one!
Actually, I started on a Hodaka Super Rat. Could carry a wheelie up any hill with that!
There were lots or CZ's around at the time, too.

Yup, that's MSR when it was only 1.7 mile track.

I was never lonely... Kevin was inching up and on the next to last lap, I'm just blocking the crap out of him (I swear I don't typically drive in the middle of the track). He got by me on the last lap when I almost lost it and then he almost lost it on the next to the last turn. I thought I had a run on him but I apex'd the last turn just a hair too early and lost all momentum. That was a fight for position if I remember correctly.

BTW, did you notice the cup car door on the track?

G.
