Default Bell Helmets

Anyone know the difference between the Bell M2 and the Bell Sport Helmets? Which is better?

Thanks.

The M2 is no longer produced but it is a similar helmet to the current M4. The biggest difference is in construction. The Sport is a slightly heavier model but it does have a removable liner.

They should fit about the same. They are both the S, M, L sizing while the M2Pro (M4Pro) is the numerical sizing which can fine tune the fit a little bit.

The M2 also has a larger eyeport than the Sport. Not a big difference though.

What about Pyrotect helmets, they seem to be the same as Bell helmets, is that true?

Pyrotect is not the same as Bell. Bell and Zamp have a very close relationship that many talk about.

My understanding is Bell and Pyrotect are owned by the same company and come down the same production line. They are very good basic helmets.

You get what you pay for. From experience I can tell you that the Pyrotect is not a Bell but is a value priced helmet. It was pretty worn after 2 seasons.

They are coming down teh same general lines (although many helmets are outsourced from manufacturers now to larger factories to reduce costs) from my understanding as well but they aren't rebranded Bell helmets (or vice versa) like the Zamp/Bell connection seems to be.

I can get an M2 (new) or a sport for about the same price. Which should I go for?

I believe Zamp is AKA Bell Europe. Not sure what the entity relationship is, but they are related.

It's a very long winded and complicated one. I finally was told exactly what the relationship was and how it became what it is today and it was far from a short conversation.

As it stands now. Bell Europe and Bell in the US are not the same company. They do have a very close relationship that goes back to Bell Europe being the exclusive importer of Bell helmets.

Whichever one you like more. It boils down to six in one half dozen in the other decision.

I really like the M2Pro that I have so I would lean towards teh M2.

If you wear eyeglasses, or like to wear sunglasses under the helmet, the M2's wider eyeport makes it much easier to get them onto your face when the helmet is on.

The liner on the Sport helmet is removable for cleaning/replacement where the M2 liner is glued in. It can also be replaced by Bell if it gets worn out but tougher to remove. Plus, the Sport is pre-drilled for HANS where the M2 may not be (not a big concern though).

What about the shape of the shell and venting? Is one more sporty than the other?

Most of the BELL helmets are made in the US; however, the Sport model is imported in. The weight of the shells is comparable. The venting is also similar on both helmets. The venting on the chin area of the M2 is horizontal where the Sport has horizontal and vertical venting at the chin area. Both have vents on the forehead. The Sport shell has a little bit of a molded design in the chin area where the M2 is basically flat/plain. The M2 eyeport is slightly taller than the Sport but both have a wide eyeport if you wear glasses. If you do a google search on Bell M2 helmet and Bell Sport helmet, you'll find pictures of both. I don't believe Bell shows the M2 on their site since it's a discontinued model.
