car video cam recommendation?

Why didn't I think of that? Must be a huge market for a $500 mod to a $200 camera!! Lets see how long the first one takes before making any promises here, OK?

It's the AIM data integration thats the bugger, and maybe after Tony corners them at PMI he will get that solved! Then again, they are going to be trying to sell their DaVid 2 system there...

To the great credit of AiM USA, they acknowledged that the market for their $2000+ DaVid system is not the same as the market for a $200 ad-on to an existing AiM logger. I'm going to see them at PRI, and I'll let you know how that goes.

That's excellent news Tony, maybe they will give you the data access you need and it will all happen when your new super-duper update comes out! BTW, it's $3000 (list anyway) by the time you are all done with DaVid, 2 bullit cams, etc.... That's 2.5 sets of R6's!!
Is there a contact at AIM USA to whom we can write to let them know our position on this?

We've been running the V2.1 beta candidate for a couple of weeks now, and I'm showing it at PRI. It eats HD video like snack food. Gary, your uberPC will love it. We'll be opening the V2.1 beta in a week or so - probably right after PRI. If you want to play, that's you hot chance!
Didn't realize that the DaVid rig ran that high. Phew! I'm in the wrong business!
Rick,
C'mon, I'm just kidding. Trying to shame me into running a batch for Rennlist, eh?

Rick--went for the a-hp plus 1080, since all the models are pretty darn reasonably priced. Aiptek was offering an extra $20 off for the brown colored model on their web page, so brown it is. Remote was listed somewhere down that page for $9.

To save $20 I would have got a PINK one if I had to! As a matter of fact, I think Sean paid extra for his pink one at the time.....
Tony, the minute you are ready for me to try the new version you KNOW i'm on it! If the AIM data hook up is in it I would be one happy lad...

For the original poster, my opinion matches many of those here who think that the Aiptek is the best low-cost solution for in-car video. Yeah, it has quirks, but you get a fantastic picture for so little money that the camera is basically disposable.

I'm on record here for a couple of years saying that a standard DV camcorder produced infinitely better results than the first couple of generations of low-cost solid state video cameras. Aiptek broke out of the pack with the A-HD. Its video quality is superb for in-car applications. Despite having a Sony HD camera in our kit, TrackVision has an A-HD in both of our cars now. Enough said!
The video quality from products like the GoPro at one end of the budget spectrum and the POV-1 at the other just don't compete. While the POV-1 is a superb package, once you've crossed over to good quality HD for 1/3 the price, its hard to justify the price for a lower video quality. YMMV, of course.

If I am reading this right, the walgreens web only special is for the A-HD+ 1080p with 3x optical, and includes a remote. $170 + $10 shipping/handling to MA.
