Talent is developed. Some develop it faster than others with the same amount of practice and some start on a higher plane, but all develop it with practice at a positive rate, although not all reach the same level even with a great amount of practice. When it comes, it is very satisfying. When it does not come in large enough measure, metal can be bent.

Who can explain what the navigator meant? Are the numbers km/hour suggestions?

The number he is using equates to how sharp of a turn.

He is reading the course to the driver.

Default MTosi Please..

Those video's of rally are crazzzy. However, I'm sorry for asking this question, but MTosi can you post the back story on your avatar? Or at least the original full size pic. She looks like some USC Trajan .... Whatever!, what's the story?

I'm sure Juha will forgive me for going OT....

Seems like a good reason to go V8 supercar racing down under....

Why in the world would you want to sit in a seat and put your life in the hands of another guy, and get none of the glory for it, but have a good chance of DYING.

Rally racing is crazy, course spotting (or whatever they call it) is INSANE!!!!!!!!

It is quite beautiful to watch two guys totally dependant and trusting each others ability to stay focused under the pressure of DYING if only one of them makes a mistake at terminal velocities. Still madness though.

I agree.

I have huge respect for Formula 1, Le Mans & other similar drivers but Rally Drivers are the best, most craziest bunch.
Also from spectator's point of view, I've seen Endurance racing, Formula 1 & Rally in person and rally takes the cake.

And when it comes to impressive driving, here's another (IMO the best ever) from Ari Vatanen:

Ari Vatanen with the crazyass Peugeot at Pikes Peak Give him the freaking sun visor for heaven's sake!

Lets not forget Porsche's own, Walter Rohrl-

and perhaps the most talented rally driver of all time, the late Henri Toivonen-

Porsche 911-

Lancia S4-

(never been able to find any onboard of Toivonen )

This is one of my all time favorites rally clips, an amazing driver in a Prodrive E30 M3 at the Manx (S14 on straight pipes, drool...)-

Since you guys like all that Rallye stuff. If you signed up for the Camp 4/S and Advanced courses in Europe you'd have a blast and really get to see where your true car control skills lay.

The swinging hill climbs, the slaloms, the narrow roads, and down the ski slopes, the Scandinavian flicks and J turns. It is a "finesse" experience, and quite exhausting since for recreation in the evening there is advanced snowmobiling, 4 wheeling (quads), go carting and tossing around RS 2000 rally cars on a lake bed.

All in -33 C weather!

Yes the navigator is reading the pacenotes in what they call tight shorthand.

There is no 1 common system and team use variations and each driver/copilot team work out their own idiosyncrasies (their lives depend on it).

The basics are... 100 R1 flat over crest into L6 tightens

This means in 100M a Right turn that is hardly a bend flat out over a crest that leads directly into a severe Left turn (could be 90 degrees and they may call it) that tightens up at the exit.

You will hear all kinds of variations, some teams like use different ways of classifying the corners from 1-6 or 1-10

The # is the distance to the next item or corner.

I'm doing Camp4 in Finland in early Feb next year.

Any tips on what to take with me?
