Hopefully someone buys Spyders and races them like private teams bought cars from Porsche in the past. This sucks!! BK Motorsports is closing up shop also. Cars are for sale.

Dyson always did pretty well with Lola, and it looks like they will be going back to a formula that worked well for them, but it really blows that porsche seems to be taking their marbles and going home in P2, I can't imagine Patrick long running in a DP car, makes you wonder what Penske will be doing with the team and what ALMS is going to look like next year. I was already set up for Sebring and Road Atlanta, I hope it still has the same energy it was developing over the past few years...

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar...ory?id=3678511 (about 3/4 down the page):
Smith gave his opinion on several pressing subjects, including his long-standing desire to purchase NASCAR from the France family if the opportunity ever were to present itself.
"I stand by that," he said. "And it's getting closer."
For the record, the France family has given no indication of having any desire to sell the sanctioning body that patriarch Bill France Sr. founded 60 years ago.
But Smith always likes to stir the pot and get people talking. He believes some tough days are ahead for NASCAR with the economic downturn, but no one should panic.

The scuttle has been, for a few months now, that Porsche will not be running RS Spyders in ALMS next year. Supposedly they are working on a P1 car and will return in 2010 for a full-on assault on the 24 Hours.
I still say the ACO, and ALMS should can P1 and GT-1 and follow Grand Am in having 2 classes. I think GT-1 is dead in ALMS anyway, but the ACO...?

The SRO will make a revised GT1 class for the 2010 FIA GT Championship.

LMP2 is for privateers and the class is on the rebound for the 2009 Le Mans Series. Lowe's Fernandez Racing has confirmed plans to return to LMP2 for the ALMS in 2009.
The LMP1 class will use LMP2-like engines for the 2011 season while the LMP2 class will use less expensive engines like the private Sodemo-tuned BMW V-8.
The French Pescarolo Sport team has been testing the Sodemo-tuned 4.0 liter BMW M3 engine for 2009.

Why not LMP1?

Dominik Farnbacher will be back with Tafel Racing for a third season in ALMS next year.

Its not I mind that Grand Am runs the DP's, hell its roadracing, and its sportscars (of sorts) so what the hell, what bugs me more is that we are loosing the momentum that ALMS was gaining. Both in LMP1 and LMP2 with audi/acura/pugeot/porsche, plus all the regulars, it was getting interesting...it was only missing someone else showing up for GT1.... and you'd have a real race.

+1, whatever is lost in P2 will more than be made up for with BMW and Corvette entering GT2 to join Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, Ford, Dodge and Panoz.
This will be the best true GT racing in some time if not ever.

True, ALMS in GT will be amazing next year. I just hope the coverage recognizes that and gives more than a proportional share of time to GT2 over P1. That said, P1 will garner attention as Audi will be head-to-head with Acura there which should be interesting. I would suspect we'll also see Peugeot back at Sebring.
