Default Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

I was in Montreal over the weekend and had a chance to drive the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at very low speed. Really liked it albeit the fact that it's completely flat. My question is, now that F1 is no longer going to use it, are there any plans to rent it to clubs for regular track days?

Was the pavement in decent shape?

Have you ever been to Circuit Tremblant or Calabogie?

This will not happen. It's part of the street system of Montreal and when they close it down for an event, it is for something large like F1, Rolex, and Natiowide.

They'll be using it again, most likely in 2009. Bernie plays the same game with Montreal every few years in pulling the GP then coming to an agreement to host again at the last minute.

No, but I've heard great things about both. Logistically they're both a bit far for me unfortunately

Yes, it's in great shape, except for some significant puddles

I figured it's a stretch, but I really liked the track, and would love to drive it at speed. Although for the most part it leaves no room for error - you make a mistake and you end up in the wall.

I was in Montreal last week, and the general feeling among the public was that this time it was really in jeopardy.
I've also driven many laps at that circuit, before it was shortened, and really liked it, although it is pretty flat. It's not part of the city streets, but it does outline a park and would only be closed for big events.
Back in the day, I used to sneak down there and just lap in anger all I wanted. Lots of cafe racers doing the same! Can you imagine? I figured that if the cops came and gave me a ticket, it would have been worth it!

It is a dedicated circuit and not part of the public streets. Spectators typically take the subway over to the island/park.

It's one of the easiest GP's to attend. Daytime by the track, then a short and pleasant subway ride to a very beautiful city for the evening.

More fun is to take the ferry if you are staying in the old city.

It is a public road. There is schedule city bus service on it and there are some city offices along the track.

In any case it would not be a good place for a DE. Just note the concrete barriers lining corner exits. You come it a little too hot and exit wide and need a new fender.

I ride my bike there during the summer all the time. It's part of my normal "circuit".

In winter it's a fun place to visit with a RWD car. They don't salt the surface to preserve the asphalt and just plow it. During a snow storm it's quite a hoot in the curves. I don't go fast in a straight line but in the turn I practice "car control".

One was never sure where they'd be staying, down in the French Quarter.

It belongs to the city and Normand Legault could only get 2 week ends out of the summer. Even if you had the money to rent it, it wouldn't happen.

Fais moi confiance.

I am bummed out by this whole Montreal gp thing. My home town was at its best during the gp weekend!
