Default 997 and magnetic numbers?

This morning my daughter insisted on putting the numbers we made for this weekends DE on the car when I drove her to school. I refused but I did put one of them on the bonnet to see how it looked.

It wouldn't stick. It stuck fine on the doors, my wife's car, the fence but not on the bonnet of my 05 C2S. We used 12" x 18", 30 mil magnetic sheet. Is the bonnet aluminum?

Yes, and I suggest taping the edges at least for the hood. I used some racers tape on a very hot day at TWS and it got really soft, and the hood number came off on the main straight. That's my only substantiated claim to going really fast at a DE.

Bonnet is definitely aluminium.

Try using temporary vinyl numbers. They work just fine and will not fly off at speed........

I have them on my hood in my avatar (at Road America)

I don't get using magnetic numbers when you have to tape the leading edge to make them stick.

I have had more than a few go sailing back into my face. Often enough that I really wish people wouldn't use them.

I use reusable vinyl stick on numbers.

I've blown every type of number off my car except for the disposable vinyl ones. Static cling, reusable vinyl, magnetic,... all of them have blown off unless taped down. The reusable ones stay on the first time you use them, but after a few uses, they no longer stick well enough.

I use 6" - 7" vinyl numbers that fit in my 1/4 windows. I just leave them there full time.

Be careful w/ magnetic numbers, especially if you drive w/ them after it rains. They can leave shadows of the number in the paint, as I found out the hard way. The vinyl number on the door works great, but nothing is as easy as the 4" sticker numbers applied to the quarter windows. I've been using them the past year, and they're the easiest by far.
