Kurt,

World Challenge pays for that air time. Speed makes a profit on those broadcasts yet still relegates them to uber-**** timeslots. If at all.

Yes, the programming is 90% junk. The good thing is that the 10% that we love is not available anywhere else, so I'm OK with it so long as F1 and the odd road racing coverage remains. Early October brings the SCCA National Runoffs, which has some terrific action in almost every class. I sure miss WRC in the winter [sob].

No kidding.

Back when they did show a lot of WRC, vintage Can-Am, F1 specials etc... the ratings were dismal. This isn't rocket science people, they show what the majority want to watch. Not the other way around.

This is exactly the base of TV today. Look at network television and it's reality show this and that because it's cheaper to produce than a 1/2 show like Seinfeld.

The point of starting this thread was SPEED has sunk to a new low with a 1 hour show that has NOTHING whatsoever to do with cars, motorsports, etc. Talk about cheap to produce, you get a camera, put it on a tripod and film a couple guys hitting a ball off a tee.

Maybe I'M the one who is missing something. Afterall, "Long Distance Driving Contest" has the word driving in it and relates to SPEED TV?

Hey I have DVR and think it is not too bad. I DVR the good stuff and can watch it whenever. As to all the other crap program it nice since I never need to my wife complain about me watching racing all day.

The least they could do is repeat some races in slots now taken by repeats of crap shows. The real issue is road racing does not sell to the great unwashed but watching some guy make a sub box and shoving in in the back of yet another crap car with Dubdub rims does. We road race fans just need to suck it up and accept it. We will be back burner until the bandwidth is so great that a pure road race station, even a poorly watched one overall would still pay off. Speed is 100% tape delay for me. I never go to it directly and thus never watch a single ad.

+1 on the DVR. That way I don't have to stay up 'til 2AM to watch something worthwhile.

Hopefully, the internet will become the pipeline that finally delivers the goods. (Remember "convergence"?). With the right platform, you could sell packages to freaks like ourselves and that should help pay for the content. I would pay decent bucks to have access to the good stuff.

I don't care what SPEED has on the air. I care about what they do not have on the air.

And I also agree that road races could be more exciting. That's why I love some of the shorter formats where the winner is the clean, fast racer, not the one with the killer pit crew. I can watch SCCA runoffs all day.

Unfortunately, Speed is on, and TRN (The Racing Network)sounds like it's a long way off.
http://www.theracingnetwork.com/boar...opic.php?t=316

What that says to me is that the Speed crap is what the TV execs think we want, and what TRN was going to show won't sell.... a real shame really.

reminds me of what MTV became....
