Default Wanted: quiet 993 race exhaust

I am looking into building a muffler system for my 993 RSR for the Road America event. I have concluded that isn't worth the effort or expense to do this for one event.

Does anyone have something they could sell me or loan me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chris - cups run with no issues, and I ran with straight pipes last year. How loud is your car?

The limit was 108 db last year, and it is 103 db this year.

My car is WAY louder than a 996/997 Cup. I am sure Cups are ok.

What exhaust do you have now?

I remember way back when, I think it was Bill (Walzak) who run into problems of being too loud and he ended up mounting regular household sink "holes" at the end of his supercups. They quieted it down and IIRC Bill though he was making more power (by the "butt dyno")...

True. 103db is pretty loud, especially far away from the track. You know your car, I was just trying to offer some input. I'm excited to see your car, and watch the crazy times I'm sure you'll do.

Best..

I think I ran a 993 there with supercups no problem. I may have had the cat still on it at the time though. Sorry I can't help.

Chris,
Check out the mufflers made by Burns Stainless.
Very light, and they are rebuildable.
You should make 103db with the Burns set-up.
If you use them make sure to get the stainless packing and not the fiberglass.

I ran my 993 RSR with supertrapps at Barber and passed the 104 limit. A friend of mine ran his 993 RSR at the Barber race in 2004 and got nabbed at 106 db. 993 RSR's with open pipes are sehr laut!!

Here is a link to an old thread on Pelican with some more info on the Coast Fab/Burns Stainless mufflers.

The Burns stuff is good, but the configuration of my current headers makes it just about impossible to install mufflers. The cost of new headers is too much to justify for the one event.

I figure I would register 106-107 on Road America's sound meter with my current exhaust system, which is simply headers.

Any way just to fab up curved tips that direct the sound away from the measuring station, as everyone does at Laguna?

Chris, I'm glad we don't have to make 92db.

IIRC, Bill used two Insinkerator traps.
