I would think that something will have a 4.0L motor in the next year. Haven't read the current rule book, but in that past the homologation rules allowed for the required number of examples of the car be built within a certain time frame, not necessarily before the use for racing.

Charlie, I saw this motor over on Pelican. It may or may not be worth a look but it is fairly cheap and it is in the right part of the country.

Yup, thanks, I've had a few refer me to that one, I'm inquiring.

Larry, I'll PM you about your motor if you're willing to sell it...

Scott

I'm sure it has to be. But then they only had to make 8 or so cars to call it homologated and the M3 GTR's "special" customers have still yet to be found.

However I think the ruling allows for the car to come within the year after the car is raced, so I would be expecting a 4.0 liter motor to come in the 911 Chassis sometime in the very near future.

What, do they take back the trophies and season points if the manufacturer doesn't end up coming out with the car?

Does anyone know how Porsche arrived at the 4.0l displacement? Did it stroke, bore, or both the 3.8l engine?

Where did you get this information from Charlie? This is really interesting.

It wasn't banned. BMW chose to withdraw it after claiming it wouldn't be competitive with the penalties imposed.

I heard it at the race from folks. I was hoping people here knew more about it.

From Porsche's website re: the ALMS race at Lime Rock:

"Three of the GT2 Porsches – the Werner/Westbook car, the Flying Lizard Johannes van Overbeek/Patrick Pilet Porsche – which qualified fifth, and the Bergmeister/Henzler Porsche, are all outfitted with a new 4.0 liter engine, which develops the same horsepower as the current 3.8 liter engine. The engine, still in its testing phase, is designed to improve drivability by widening the power band. "
