2000 Toyota LandBruiser, 180K miles, extensive towing for the last 5 years or so.
To date:
- AC Condensor sprung a leak and was replaced
- One coil pack failed and was replaced
- Oil, pads, and no other problems.

Every time I start thinking about a new truck, I wind up concluding that the old Bruiser will be more reliable at 180K than many of the new domestics. Let us know what you buy, Mark. I agree that 0% and the discounts are making the domestics attractive. Its good to be in teh market for somethign that has become, um, unfashionable.

The 6.0 in the 1/2 tonners is a completely different motor than the 6.0 in the 3/4 tonners.

I had a '99 Silverado 1/2 ton with 115k miles on it when I sold it. Seems the 1/2 trucks at 100k miles need all new bearings in the rear end (dealer said it's typical). That costs around $2k. Then went the u-joint, a/c, alternator, numerous elec gremlins, then the transmission started to make some noise. I dumped it last year and found a lessee who needed out from under his lease on a 2500HD - 6.0 v8 and allison transmission standard cab with 8' bed. He paid for the lease transfer fee and gave me a check to cut down the monthly lease payment.

Mark, is the new Diesel Suburban included in the 0% interest deal?

98 GMC Yukon purchased new. Never used for towing-merely a daily driver. Generally quite reliable. Tranny went out at about 110k miles. Sold it soon after that.

Mark per our previous conversation I've decided not to try and make my 4Runner work and am leaning towards a used Expedition (I want a folding 3rd row for the family thing). People are dumping SUVs so fast you can get an 07 with less than 30K miles for under $20K and 03-04 models with around 60K for $10-11K. If you're still towing your 993 on the Trailex the 9000 lb. capacity is more than enough.
You might also consider a modern V8 4Runner. 7000 lb. capacity and a friend recently got 13mpg towing an 87 911 on a steel trailer through the mountains on I-40 in NC. I would consider one but the third row is a PITA.

Hey, Gary,

I'm not sure but have a feeling it's not part of the special. Here is a link to the sale: http://www.gm.com/shop/results.jsp?p...cmp=72hoursale

Thanks, Chris. Yeah, I looked at 4Runners before I bought the Sequoia, but they don't have enough cargo space for me. I was impressed with the acceleration, though.

Thanks, Mark. See, I want something that is going to last beyond 100,000 miles.

Mark,

04 F150 FX4 5.4 Triton. Daily drover and tow 5000 lbs total weight open trailer w/ SC. Also tow 24 ft enclosed 8000 lbs total weight occasionally with load-distributing hitch. 73,000 miles. No engine or tranmission problems and incredible brakes. I drive it like the 911 and have yet to replace front pads. Id like a little more torque, so Im shopping for intake/exhaust/chip, but I have zero complaints.

Thanks, Don. How many miles are on your F150?

Unfortunately, since I have to haul clients around, a pick up won't work for me.

Doesn't look like it's even available yet... I would think that, along with 0% for 6 years, they should also be giving some hefty discounts in this economy..

Mark,

73,000. 5000 mile oil changes with Mobil 1, and other normal service. No issues. Same engine and trans are available in the Expedition. I have been eyeing the Expedition EL.

The F-150 and Expedition have basically the same drive train and same upgrades with the towing package.
