2 thumbs up!
How's the car?
I put my skis on, and am cruising down the "slippery slope" at warp speed. Having a blast in the process. I intend on adding the GPS. What's another $600 if I'm already spending 4k?

Good to hear from you Rick.

Sounds a bit steep, are you buying it through Joe @ Circuit? Whole thing w/GPS installed should be $4K +/-...

The GPS adds calculated lateral and longitudinal g's. The MXL only has a lateral accelerometer. The GPS allows you to review your path on the track. You can export the path as a google earth kml file, and you can check out our line BUT there may be some offset, and I don't think you can adjust it away. (Mostly a gimic to make up for the fact that they don't let you define track outlines in their software.)

GPS speed is likely more accurate than wheel speed or ECU speed, but there may be some lag. GPS also provides calculated items like gyro (turn rate, but not really raw rate), heading and slope.

Worth the cost IMHO.

I run it with boot camp on a MacBook Pro. Runs fine. At home, I run it with vmware fusion. Again, no issues.

The install is the killer. No, I'm not buying it from Joe (we've discussed it offline). I need whoever installs it to support it, and they are not likely in these parts unless I buy it from them, too. My guy is going to charge about $3400 installed before GPS, with the basic sensors. The $4k was before he discounted it.

Understand fully Ben, $4k for the entire package installed is quite fair..

My car wouldn't know what happened... Someone who's actually fast driving it.

I'm only fast because of my car. Anyone can go fast in an open wheel car with wings and slicks.

Ben's installer is setting him up and a local data guru is involved so it's a deal that I agreed with him was tough to beat.

What is a reasonable price for an AIM system without install?

Depends on the level that you want. You can get a non GPS system with fewer channels for 999.00 and the driver sensors would be the same 400.

Roughly 3000 for the systems that Ben wil have and Gary has in their cars.

They have the MXL Pista dash, GPS, extra sensors, patch cables. Dash retails for 2K, GPS is 600 and the extra sensors are ball park 400.

The install takes some work just because you have to fabricate mounts for a few of the sensors. I tell people to budget 5-10 hours for a shop to do it depending on the car and the shops expertise.

Gary -where did you install your GPS antenna? Did you also install a separate on/off switch, or tie it to the ignition?

My car is torn apart as we speak... Should be back next week. Can't wait.

TIA

Antenna wire runs into trunk and magnetic antenna is on the cowl a few inches from my right fender seam, works great there. My system is wired to go on with the ignition, though it would be better in some ways to only turn it on when you want it to record. Every time I start the car I get a new data file, even if it's only to back it out of the trailer..

Does it have to be outside? My guy has it on the dash inside the car right now, and that seemed a little weird to me. Any idea?

I think I might wire the AIM system to the fog light switch, so I can manually turn it on and off.
