I watch the TX race tonight. They throw out the yellow for a spin with no contact. Did it twice. A boring version of NASAR. 1/2 the cars just going in a circle.
Totally disagree with you. That race had a lot of slicing and dicing, lead changes and so forth. I am enjoying IRL. They had to throw caution in the name of safety for the driving that are coming up on the car that just spun even though they did not make contact.
They throw the yellow because of the insane speeds involved. They have no idea if the spin is going to result in a crash when the yellow first comes out.

+1 IRL is getting interesting again for the first time in a long time.

Not to mention what one itty bitty piece of carbon fiber (that may be visible only to a safety crew when they do a close up inspection of the track) can do to a tire, etc. when the next guy comes up at 210+.

Have you ever driven even the road course and then the banked oval portion of that track??? If so you would TOTALLY understand. I went through NASCAR/IRL turn 4 at 90 on my way to 120 before shutting it down for the chicane we put on the front straight and from that point forward my hat has been off to those guys going 100 mph faster than I was going! What they are doing is INSANE! They are going so fast you can't see and react to little things on the track that could still wreck your car.

On ovals you can't throw a local yellow like you can on a road course. Someone spinning can be a huge hazard even if the don't hit anything so you want to get the immediate attention of the drivers and get them to slow down to make the situation much safer for all involved.
