I was in the backseat for that ride. It was the last session of the day, at Barbers and there were 4 people in the car.

Meh. I've tracked a Buick Lesabre.

I've also tracked a Buick Lacrosse! Hmmm, seems to be a theme there...

...and my first autox car was a diesel Wabbit. And I've tracked a Chrysler minivan too.. now THAT'S 3-wheelin'! (with 3 passengers)

That's great... reminds one of the joke about mopeds and fat women...

As "Diamond" Dave once said - "It's not what you do, it's how good you look doing it!"

I think I saw Pete napping in the back seat during one run.

My Mother had the same car, and in '67, when I owned a '67 912, I borrowed it to move (stereo and T-shirts basically) my college apt., finding out how bad the brakes were when I shortened it about a foot or so.

Rob can really make a Grand M move around the track. At Road Atlanta he removed the exhaust to get a few extra ponies. In fact, he got the "most consistant lap" award from the corner workers at RA (a small plastic rubber traffic cone). On Sunday, said cone was firmly screwed into the bumper as a badge of honor

Riding in that car on track is just about the funniest thing I've ever done. I was laughing in every turn.

Anyone notice a similarity in the handling between that, and the "car of tommorow" on road courses......maybe the COT's are closer to street cars than we think....lol

I thought that COT stood for Cars with Outdated Technology.

Yeah, you'd think that with the precision of the Ford engineered luxury suspension he'd be able to do better than that.

I blame that on tire sidewall compliance.

Greetings! Heard our little "group" was being discussed, so thought I'd check it out...

You're joking, yes? How is the Marquis line "much better" than the camera car, which is *following* him to shoot the video? You *do* realize that Robert is purposely throwing the car wide and off-line to sling the *** around, don't you? Oh, and to do a little lawn mowing!

I've not had the pleasure of riding in any of Robert's rental Mercs yet, but I have to say seeing those 4 bobbing helmets and the the tire marks laid down going into every turn might be the funniest thing I've ever seen on or near a racetrack! Glad y'all are getting a kick out of it!

Fred-o
(a.k.a. camera car pilot... )

P.S. Surprised no one has commented on the 3-way "International Greeting" the passengers gave to the camera upon cresting the hill out of T4...

Haha! No doubt about him being better-- Robert's probably got more natural talent than anyone in the group, possibly save David. His car control skills are phenomenal, even at the autocross course. It's amazing what he can do w/ cars that are not the fastest in the world!

I didn't comment on it only because I don't want any video of me doing same (on a different track) surfacing.
