Default Why are there no tire contingencies in PCA Club Racing?

I just signed up for the NASA race at Miller. At every NASA race, everywhere in the country, there is a chance to win free Hoosier tires.

For every class with three entrants, the first place driver gets 2 free tires. If there are 5 entrants, second place also gets one tire.

https://www.hoosiertire.com/NASAawdg.htm

Looks like SCCA and a couple of other clubs have a similar deal:

https://www.hoosiertire.com/rrtire.htm

It turns out that there are exactly three cars in my class, and two sprint races during the weekend, so I'm gonna see about gettin' me a set of tires.

Just curious why this isn't available in PCA club racing. Thoughts?

because PCA club racers will buy them anyway. Why should they give them away?

Ooh that's interesting. Have you used those tires? If so, how do they compare to Hoosiers (or V710 or Gforce R1)?

No, not me personally, but I know quite a few people that have that like them(Z214 C51). I think I've heard they're faster than R6's and R1's, but don't take my word for it.

Most of the big races give out a free set of Hoosiers courtesy of Bob Woodman.

CDOC offers a contingency program for PCA. I won $325 towards anything from thier catalog at Heartland Park. That's almost half a HANS device.

My bad, I just re-read your post. You were asking about tire contingencies. Sorry. I'm dumb.

We are trying to get Toyo to do it in PCA SPEC Box. Right now they do it with POC. Maybe it will be a start.

Well over a year ago I contacted the person in charge of the Toyo program in the US and he was quite willing to extend it to PCA as it is already in force in NASA. I then contacted the PCA race director......I'm still waiting for a result. My guess is that PCA wants $$$$$$$ from Toyo to allow them to offer the program in PCA. Well I now race mostly in NASA events.

The CDOC contingency program is also available in NASA, as well as the Hoosier contingency, and also Hawk brake pads and many others.

Great question, and one of the topics I brought up to PCA during the rules proposal period, which, by the way, ends June 1.

I had a conversation with a Hoosier rep on this topic recently.

His response was that Hoosier had made the offer to do a contingency program for PCA similar to NASA and SCCA but that PCA had declined. His belief was that PCA thought this would compromise the "gentleman" aspect of our program.

I'm not sure how CDOC got their wonderful program incorporated into PCA club racing if Hoosier could not.

Wow, sounds like we should all send a brief email to the PCA rules folks and let them know how we feel about tire contingencies...

Seems strange that Hankook has one for PCA racing and that PCA would turn down one from Hoosier (or BFG)...
