I haven't done a full vinyl wrap yet, but I have a vinyl 3m sticker on my car for over a year and it is very durable. It was very easy to take off and it didn't leave any residue. This is one good alternative that instead of wrapping your car all over it, putting a character onto it is something good to consider.

Decals/vinyl won't do much to keep off the rock chips, as the vinyl is pretty thin. You can use the Clear Bra/Xpel products for that (or in conjunction with the vinyl).
For design, whether involved (like mine), a full wrap, or just bits, you want to talk with Dan Porter. He designed and printed mine (see below). Can be installed locally pretty easily (he can help you with that). utopia@cinci.rr.com

I went the sticker route:

27" long Puffalump bunny. Repro Systems did it; I think it only ended up being $30something.

Hey Dan!
Waiting for some good picture opportunities at VIR next week.
But here's one (pardon the snow and the street wheels).

Here is a partial wrap we finished last week. Retro livery based on the Salzburg 917K that won Lemans in 70. Fun stuff!

To be clear, is that grey paint with vinyl on top, or is the grey also vinyl?

It is the original Meteor Gray with vinyl details on top of the paint.
I.e., not a wrap. Didn't need one to do what I wanted.
Dan can tell you more (poster of the faux 917 pics above).

Ive been working with dan @ Utopia/Magnagrfik for many years. he's done countless of my personal cars and cars of buddies. liveries, car number placards, replica liveries of historics and new idea concepts. he also has done team hats and shirts, etc. as well as driving suit embroidery stuff.
