Default Race Gas

The gas price thread is a good one about everyone's attitude about the price, but it got me to thinking (dangerous, I know)-

Where else do you buy the higher octane fuel besides at the track?

What fuel are you running- 98 unleaded, 100 or 110 leaded?

What race gas prices are you seeing where?

I normally buy 100 (running a 951 turbo) from the track. If I trailored the car there I would probably buy drums as I know it is cheaper!

I don't use the stuff, but I'm told that there are a couple of places in Northern NJ (Ledgewood?) where it can be purchased. A friend said he paid $7.50/gal. last week.

110 leaded. I hate the fact that I have an engine that needs it. But in reality I get about 12 mpg while on track so with a test day 6 sessions and a race day 2 sessions I only used about 10 gallons at 7.00 a gallon (maybe 8.00 I'm being billed for it.)

Higher octane stuff can be found all over the place in Charlotte last time I was there.. Other places that have it are dirt circle tracks which I would guess are pretty common in Alabama. Also some of the service stations that have tow trucks that work at the race tracks around here have the stuff.

I've found that the drums can be a little cheaper for the 104 unleaded, but 'the good stuff' (whatever that means to you) can be A LOT more than the Sunoco or VP that they sell at the tracks. Add the hassles of dealing with a drum and I've stuck to buying at the track.

I use 104 unleaded when I can, and its $6 to 7/gallon. The drum cost was 375-425 a drum, so not really a great deal for my situation.

Circuit:
12mpg!!!! HOLY CRAP! That's awesome. I get 4.5mpg, on a good day.

Every 30 minutes I burn about 7.5 gallons....

New goal in life : to be more like Circuit....

Yeah but gallons per hour for horsepower is probably in your favor.

2.0 liter ford pinto motor with a 32/36 Weber can only drink so much.

It'll be at VIR all summer and at member days starting June 28

Speaking of VIR..

On the way to the track on Rt 58 East of Danville, there's a Liberty gas station on the West bound side that sells race gas cheaper that they do at at the track. ;-) (not that i use it...)

Try the April and October events at NHMS and see how much it can drink in the cold!

The lowest I've measured was 10-11 mpg when I was running the car at the end of last year here in WI and the temp was in the high 30's, low 40's for the morning sessions.

My little 1.3 gets a little over 7. Amazing how flat slides, unrestricted, and an 8-10.5K powerband suck it down.

Anyway, if anyone needs full drums in the North Bay, Royal Petroleum should be able to fix you up with Sunoco. NO idea what current pricing is as it's been at least 3 years since I've bought a drum.

If you're in a pinch you can get it from most bike shops but you'l pay a premium. $10.00/gallon in sealed five gallon cans for 104. I use one to a tank of 93. Two cans a weekend for DE ain't so bad.

100 octane unleaded. Last week $5.99 per gallon. Previous 6 months $5.89 per gallon. Covert Sunoco station in Virginia Beach. Don't tell, it's my secret.........

Race fuel could be cheaper than diesel in 6 months.

The beauty of a rotary is that I can run 91 octane pump gas. The downside is that I get about 5 mpg in a 1100lb car.

Does it improve any if you burn it while it is IN the combustion chamber?
