Just rec'd an e-mail from Jersey Shore Region that there will be a change for both the Sept 10-11 DE and the Schattenbaum 12-14 Club Race: from Thunderbolt track to Lightning track.

Anyone have more details and reason why?

no idea for sure but after I saw the email I jumped to their construction pictures. The latest pics (from I think two weeks ago) look as if Lightning is much further along than Thunderbolt. Perhaps their time line is slipping a little and switching us to Lightning was the only way.

Mark, we were told that NJMP needed to have the track for a pro event (one of the support series for CART). Some fallout of the IRL/CART merger. By contract NJMP can do this.

Lightning is the smaller (1.9) miles vs Thunderbolt (2.25). Thunderbolt paving is underway, see pictures here http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/k...bw?nocache=550. I have been told that they are on schedule.

 

Charlie: Thanks for the info. It's too bad we are getting bumped to the smaller track, however either track is better than no race at all. The "light bulb turn should be fun. Glad to hear the Thunderbolt track construction is still on schedule. They deserve a lot of credit for this. I suspect the mild winter has has been a plus.
