One important point no one has mentioned is rust for the steel trailers. I live in a dry climate (humidity wise) and my steel open trailer would rust wherever it had exposed bare metal. The deck where I drove the car was the worst due to hot pickup of rocks at the track on my race tires. I stored my trailer indoors and still had many rust issues. I am sure in the NE it is much worse. The resale of aluminum makes up for the cost savings of steel in my opinion. Also, somone mentioned designing their own wheel rack above. I measured the width of my steel trailer deck and Trailex made me a custom sized rack just like the one shown above. I bolted it on in about an hour and called it a day. It wasn't worth my time to custom build something from scratch plus the Trailex rack locks securely so you don't have to worry about your expensive wheels being stolen.

I bought my trailex used (good fortune there...as rare used as hens teeth) and have had it going on 5 years now and it has been solid, trouble free, and tows like a breeze. I don't need the storage of an enclosed, and open is lighter ...what I need. Even an open steel, while lots cheaper, is 2x the weight. This is a huge plus since it not only allows one to use a smaller vehicle, but by extension you get better mileage ...a MUCH bigger deal today than 5 years ago, eh? And mmporsche beat me to it: alum doesn't rust/corrode ...this is a huge plus. I'm never getting rid of mine ...great product (and company) without doubt!
