Well first it feels like a cliff and then it flattens out to a 20k/year slope with the occasional air pocket when the engine or tranny lets go. My machanic just told me today that the back lash on the tranny feels sloppy and The ltd slip needs to be rebuilt. I can't wait for a prob on the track....... when I'm about to catch Larry H sooooooo..............$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. 4 sets of wheels and 1/2 a car in the attic.

5 sets of wheels has been good for me.
2 sets for slicks that are for the race so I don't have to be rushing to get tires mounted. 1 set of slicks for test days. 1 set for rains and 1 set of intermediates.
All I can say is John Berget has made my life much cheaper with they way I need tires.

About the trans, on my current one I was told that the pinion bearing housing was loosening up (typical on raced G50s) and that I should have a steel bushing inserted in the case so that the bearing would not move around. It causes backlash problems. Have yours checked for that.

I have four sets of wheels and sometimes feel 5 would be better. That's without carrying around intermediates. If I wanted intermediates, maybe 6 sets would be best.

I have 3 sets. I think it's logical. I don't want to take a chance screwing up my car because I didn't have time to mount the correct tires for the weather conditions.
At races, there's alway tire support, but you can't always assume they will have time to meet you schedule.
Get at least 1 set for rains. I would even go w/a cheaper type wheel and go used.
A wet track can be really fun with rain tires.

The slope ends when you run out of rope (your spouse anchors the other end and becomes an immovable object), you run out of money, or finally learn self-restraint. Enjoy the free fall until the splat or graceful landing.

I have 4 sets of wheels for my 944 spec car.
Here is how they are broken out. ( I had paint the wheels to tell them apart)
Set 1 - White Cookies - RA-1's in "race" condition - no tread, but still sticky
Set 2 - Black Cookies - RA-1's in "break in" - 3/32 to 4/32 tread depth. They had been full treads kept for rain, but it was time to break them in.
Set 3- Red Cookies - New R888's - I just had then installed and have them as spares and I will start breaking them in once my "White" set of RA-1's expire.
Set 4 - 1 damaged cookie & 3 epsilon wheels used to store the car on. This way I don't need to let car sit for weeks on my "good" tires.

quick non-literal translation of the voiceover:
There once was a guy who jumped out of a window in a tall building.
As he passed each floor, he said to himself "so for, so good" to reassure himself
But the important thing isn't the fall . . . it is the landing.
