Those vans are heavy duty and should work just fine for an open trailer. I would put the heavier objects that you are not going to tow in the centre of the van as opposed to the rear due to extended rear overhang and the addition of the trailer's tongue weight. You don't want to drive feeling like your doing wheelies.

So I've been towing a open bed trailer for awhile now and the wife's Audi Q7 TDI has handled that great. But since I'm switching to a 24' enclosed soon I need something that can handle the extra weight..... enter the 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel / Denali Sierra 2500 HD!

I was looking at smaller 1500 series trucks but none of them were really up to the task. Also you can never have too much truck when towing. Didn't want to regret getting a truck that couldn't do everything I needed from it.

I haven't been this excited about a car in a LONG time! Can tow 13k in this bad boy!

The DURAMAX 6.6L Turbo Diesel. It's a MONSTER!

Towing in open in that is fine. The extended rear overhang of that and the Ford vans do make for a sway fest with longer enclosed type trailers. Chevy went the other way and extended their wheelbase to prevent that.
