It is both. Going to the track without friends to hang with is like taking a shower wearing a raincoat. Besides who are you gonna brag to about your feats of the day if not them.

Nobody else wants to hear about it.

Darkside

Did my first event off my home turf at VIR at Roebling last November. Track time could not be beat but the Friday night GTG and Saturday night BBQ gave us out of towners a great opportunity to meet and make new friends and tell old lies to a group that hadn't heard them before. We did run out of beer on Saturday night..........

The track rules, people and genuine friendship ice the cake.

Track time is #1, but the time in between with your friends is almost as important. My DE time has been really limited the last few years with finishing up school, but its always fun to run into old friends from far away that you would only see at DE. If you haven't been to a Darkside Saturday night bbq, its the best around. The last time I attended, most of the people stuck around for the bbq, whereas it seems for other regions (mine included), most head into Savannah. Friday night beer and pizza seem to be popular too, even though I usually miss it as its hard to get away from work in time to make it. Time spent at DE's is strictly hobby/fun time, so it makes sense to make DE's as enjoyable/popular as is financially reasonable.

Local track time calls in May, but I think you can count on me and some friends for the November event for some time to come. Extra keg next time?? Us southeast Virginia boys will kick in! It makes the out of town lies better.
