Default Container for outside tire storage?

While keeping an eye on Dell's thread, I had hoped that someone might suggest an outdoor, covered option. My tire collection is about to exceed the storage capabilities of our garage but I don't have the room for wall racks and the ceiling is out. Currenly, I stack them, 6 high. However, I have plans to pick up another set in a couple weeks at the local Porsche/BMW swap meet (thanks John!) and 10 high seems unsafe.

The one place where space is readily available is outside of the garage. Despite NC's moderate climate, I don't want to leave them exposed to all of the elements. Any suggestions on large bins or containers that would hold 4 tires each and keep out the rain & sun?

Are cold/freezing temps a concern for the type of tires you'd be putting outside? You probably don't want to subject R compound or slicks to freezing temperatures.

Definitely not for Hoosier R6s or slicks.

Sorry, should have mentioned these are R compounds. Ideally they'll be rotated through track duty but I would be guessing at any length of time estimate. Sounds like I need to go back to the drawing board and find better shelter than a tarp or plastic shed. Thanks for the thoughts & suggestions though.

I stack tires as high as I can reach (and I'm 6'5") w/ no apparent ill effects.

Just a thought but your fluctuation in tire temps and humidity is what you want to avoid I would try to keep them inside in a controlled environment if you can.

There is an advisory stating that TOYO RA-1's should NOT be stored below frezzing conditions as cracking of the rubber may occur.
