2.5 meaning that the garage does NOT have a wall on one side like the other. The width of the garage is almost 30 foot wide. It is marketed by my builder as a 2.5 since the .5 selling point is work and storage space. Front the right side of the garage door opening to the wall is another 8 feet.

For example, the 2.0 car garage homes in the neighborhood are roughly 18 foot wide. Literally, 2 cars and a few feet on one side, twice that in between the cars and then a feet on the other side.

See the first pic for a picture of my garage.

Garage looks great, Dell! That sliding jack is the cat's a$$, too. Hadn't seen that before...

Dell,

How deep is your garage (from the door to the back wall)?

Dimensions were what I was curious about.

We just bought a house in Durham and all these places that are selling houses with 2 car garages are 20x20 and 3 car are 20x30. Ours is 26x26 so I was curious how it would compare to yours in the pictures. I head down on Thursday to do the final plan review and then they break ground in 2 weeks.

Sounds like you are in the 2.5 garage demographic Basically it comes down to 2 cars and room for storage (and still have room to move around) which you don't get in a traditional 18-20' wide 2 car garage.

Well I have a 2 and 3/4 car garage and manage to stuff 3 cars in it without a lift. It is a standard 19 wide by 20 deep garage for part of it. The 3/4 car garage part is extends 14 feet deep and is 10 feet wide. So in essence I have a 10 x 34 stall and a 9 x 20 stall. The good news is that 14feet is all I need for my 951 so it fits perfect. The nice thing also is no garage door in the way on that deep stall so I have all of my 9feet 6 inches to use for a lift. The issue is just the short depth.

I added on a 2.5 garage off my master for my shop etc... we made it 30x26 with an 18 x 8 foot single garage door. Ceilings are 10 foot high and I have a large attic stair I can pull down with lots of easy access storage up above. Adding a Scissor lift soon so either bay can be my race car prep bay. The nice thing about custom is I could also add all my air lines in the wall, put in 220 for a welder or lift and high output lights. I just love this thread, you guys have all done great jobs on your garages. The only thing I need to add to mine is TV and that will be easy. Watching race vids while working gives inspiration...

Working on running the cabling so I can mount the LCD I bought for the garage. Just need to find a weekend now to get it done. Track season is back in gear!

Dell it looks good. I am in the design stages of added an 2.5 detached garage. I need to have some storage so the wife has a place for her garden tools (gotta compromise) i am looking at 24 deep and 28 wide, 11 foot ceiling. I am going with a 4 post lift (a wide one) With a floor jack like yours, so i can store my trailer on top of the lift over the winter or when not in use. Now I have to bust open the piggy bank.

I wish I had 4-5 more feet in depth. We have very similar dimensions (width and height) it's just the depth I wish I had more of.
