Default Anyone know about 944 manual steering?

I have a manual steering rack in my 944 race car, and it is becoming hard to turn. I just assumed it was a rack and pinion, with grease in it. It looks ok from the outside. What happens when they go out? Are they rebuildable? I know a new one is at least one arm and one leg, maybe even a kidney.

Any help would be appreciated,

Bill Seifert

New ones are actually unobtanium at the moment.

There isn't a lot to rebuild... just disassemble and regrease really.

Hey Bill;

There is not much you can do. If you are lucky, the end bushings are worn. These can be custom made out of delrin or some sort of bronze bushing stock fairly easily. If you have any wear/play in the pinion gear or shaft, you're screwed.

There are NO rebuild components for manual racks whatsoever.

Thanks, I'll pull it apart.
