Default Helmets for oval head?

Hi all,
I'm in the market for a first helmet for DE use, and not looking for anything top end.
I went to Wine Country and tried on a few helmets, but had some trouble because of my oval head. HJC fit pretty well but not perfectly. Bell was out of the question.
I've read almost all of the posts here, and most swear by Arai for oval heads.
Of course, they are the most expensive.

I'm trying to get up to Oakland to try on other brands, but it's tough to get there by the 5pm closing time.

Anybody have any suggestions?
I can't find much on Simpson helmets, but they seem to fit the price point I'm looking at (~$350-$500)

If you continue to have issues with proper fitment, you could consider having Stand21 make a custom fit helmet for you.

Since an SA2005 helmet will be good for quite a while, which may help justify the expense.

i don't know about no oval-shape, but i have a peanut head

anyway, i wear a simpson helmet and it fits great! (bell's, etc... always seemed big and just never fit right). i used to have an arai motorcycle helmet which fit me pretty well (never tried the sa version for the track, so can't really say for sure). you may also try impact racing helmets - since it is a bill simpson company, they may fit like simpson helmets as well....

good luck

I have the same fitment issue, it's called the Shoei Head. Unfortunately, Shoei stopped making SA helmets about 10 years ago. Stand 21 fit me best now, but jeez $$$. So Bells are super tight on the forehead but I bought one, I then compressed the foam by pushing on it with my thumb really hard several times across the brow for a few MM more space. So far so good.

btw, Helmet City also carries Pyrotech, it's Bell's lower price brand, same helmet shell and liner, less features.

Stop messing around and buy the Arai. It fits oval heads like a glove.

Maybe my head is way oval...on the Arai fit, not the ones I've worn, and that's quite a few. I haven't worn one since 2005 though, maybe they're different?

The G-Force will also fit an oval head. They are inexpensive but the quality and fit is very nice and they pass the same tests and have the same snell stickers as their competitors.

So far:

Bell and Pyrotech: no way
Simpson (Super Bandit): no way
HJC: not bad....
Arai: yet to try, but I caved in and ordered the GP-5k...so I'll let you know in a few days
