Seriously, it is fun to watch Daytona, but I far prefer ALMS.

I did say the best Rolex 24. The Dp's may not be the RS or the R10's and GT3 Cup's may not be the RSR's but the drover line up is world class and the racing is as good as if gets. AND they even have Derck Bell droving . I guess that one for us old farts.

What a lineup! But hey Leh, show those amateurs how it's done!

I agree with Wayne though no doubt 24 will be a great race, mostly because of just awesome line up of drivers from many forms of racing that crowd the Rolex 24 but I'll be heading to 12 hrs later this year.

GrandAm is doing an excellent job with their series, containing cost relative to say ALMS. I don't view the series as an either or , as i do enjoy both for what they bring to the table. ALMS for the high tech prototypes and Grandam for the close racing and well known accessible Driver lineup. Unfortunately the Rolex 24 lineup is nothing comapred to it's past where the same high tech type ALMS cars would compete at the 24 Hr , the same as Sebring , If grandAm would give those suckers another 150 BHP , things would be a lot different .......... or if ALMS had the Driver factor or grid strength of Grandam

I like ALMS but I feel that Grand Am is far more of a drivers series with no traction control, and relatively low downforce. It would be nice to see them have to use manuals but thats not going to happen. It's neat to see a race series that rewards consitency speed and teamwork, versus just having the best car. Also it's nice to actually have at least 10 competetive cars that can pass each other not go around in a train. (I can't realy complain about the ALMS last year it was great, but the previous seasons had become an audi parade).

I think Leh and Farnbacher are going to have their work cut out for them against TRG and the 66 car of Bryce Miller(of the champioship winning FL 87 car last season), Ted Ballou, and Andy Lally. Regardless of the outcome I think the battle is going to be spectacular - and I'll be in the pits to witness it all. Cant Wait!!

Any guesstimate as to how much regular drivers pay to rent a seat at the 24 Hours these days?

Probably what an entire season costs for the average PCA racer.

From what I hear it can be $50-$80,000 depending on team and car. This in the GT class, have no idea about the DP's

I much prefer the ALMS as well. But, this years driver lineup for the Rolex 24 has to be one of the best in the DP era. And Daytona is only an hour away for me. It serves as a nice tuneup for 12 hrs of Sebring.

Hopefully the major GT battle is between TRG and F-L.

From very recent experience, it depends on the venues and car you want to run in, you can get a seat for as little as $15-20k if you have good networking skills and know some people who are involved. It will not be with one of the top teams, but good enough to come 9th overall out of 90 teams for example.

Typically with $40-50k you have a seat with a decent team, this will also get you a couple of doors' space for your sponsor if you have one, or the roof etc.... The average budget to run one race in a cup car is about 150-180k Euros, that includes an almost full spare car, engine and gearbox (32k Euros!!)
