Comments/constructive criticism welcome. Like Chris C's video, it ends with a bang. Will let you guys take a look and comment before posting what I feel happened and how it could have been avoided.

At the very start of the 2 minute video, you made the same pass, but the 79 car almost turned into you there. You barely made it into his field of vision and he was able to correct. That turn has a fast entry into a downhill braking zone and is one of the busier spots on that track. On the last attempted pass, he had a more defensive line and you did not get as far beside him. I doubt he ever saw you. I can see myself in your shoes and I very likely would have tried the same pass. In hindsight, his line was slow and you might have been better staying left in the braking zone and getting a better launch through the turn.

Looks to me like you were barely to his door, a door he promptly closed, then you went agro and hit him. I agree with the above, it looks like he was running a defensive line and if you were over to his left and got a good launch you may have passed him leaving the corner. I'd like to hear your take on it.

Well, I think you dive bombed that turn pretty hard. You had to take 90 percent of the turn on the grass I think maybe you should have stayed there and let 79 by. Did you get the 13 13 for that ?

Who was a black lapping 911 with X, blocking Hupfer? What a blind (or stupid) driving.

Thanks Mike! Up until the very end of the video, it was a pretty interesting race.

The black car is #698 and I suppose one could look him up on the results. I don't know him personally. A similarly frustrating occurence happens at about 13:50 in the video to me.

If anyone wants to download the entire video, google video is pretty easy to fast forward once the entire video is downloaded. Interesting stuff (to me) is at about:
6:15, 6:45, 13:50, 19:28 (the black car mentioned) and the incident at the very end.

My opinion is that these guys are either just pretty busy driving their own cars and not expecting to be caught/passed quickly by the leaders OR they take a very literal interpretation of the direction to "Hold your line and be predictable when being lapped" direction given to them in their first race orientation meeting. When I'm being lapped I try to point VERY early to the lapping car to one side or the other where I want them to pass. That way, they know that I see them and won't close the door if they want to go inside of me into/through a corner.

IMO at 6:15 and 6:45 you've pulled two great passes, good job. At 13:50 you came up on him so fast, he probably didn't see you (why he didn't brake earlier for left corner to let you in) or he was going to let you by where he felt more comfortable - next short straight. At 19:28 no freaking comments at all...

Thanks for a very rare video capturing #79. I am always amazed by how tight this guy takes carrousel-like turns. Too bad it ended this way. This guy (79 silver 911) is a really really sharp, fair, aware driver by the way.

I watched this entire race from the bleachers and it was great to see. Although it looks close in the video it looked even closer as you guys were nose to tail lap after lap. Thanks for posting and keep 'em coming.

Easy there, Mike. I saw your sprint race at Gingerman last Summer ... glass houses, my friend. I'm not trying to make this personal or anything but I think we all have moments where we should have zigged when we zagged, right?

Car #698 is owned by Oscar Im, a Chicago Region racer and Rennlister regular. That footage was from his second race, ever, he completed the other two safely (which not everyone can say) and he took home the rookie award. I'd say he had a pretty good weekend for a first timer.

Well, good racing it was...except for the uh, er, incident.

Did you get tagged earlier, right rear?? ...it sounds like you got tapped, but your car didn't spin or anything, so I'm thinking maybe not.

I WILL have to say, for that bonehead move in the grass...if I were the other guy...it would've been UGLY in the paddock. You asked.

I was the silver 993 that was in your mirrors for the first part of the race. When you passed Hupfer at 6:22, you forced him to really slow down which caused me to almost hit him. Instead, I went to the left (6:25)and into the grass. I'm not blaming you at all, BTW, because, unlike a couple of other racers at that event, I don't believe in the power of whining, not that it was your issue in the slightest. You, Costa, Hupfer and I were all on a tear and running close and that's what happens in the heat of battle.

I do think that you should have stayed on the grass when you tried to pass Hupfer as opposed to trying to come back onto the track. If you had stayed on the grass, no contact would have occurred. To my eye, it didn't look like he came dive-bombing into the apex, but, instead, gave you some room. More than likely, I'll bet the last thing he expected was for you to come back on the track when you did.
