Default Class Question for 38D & the 993 racers on Rennlist

I have no aspirations of racing in the near future, but am curious as to what class my car be placed in. Are there other RS Clones (g50/31 gearbox, sunroof delete, 3.8, etc) that are actually in a class where you can be competetive? Or is this an automatic bump to GT?

I've tried looking at the rulebook (briefly)...and can't really make sense of it in short order.

Just curious...

I just posted this in the other thread, but yes you can run a clone in I class if you do every change. From what I have read, you have done all the changes, so you should be able to run in the new I class. Partial clones (no 3.8L conversion, wrong gearbox, etc) get bumped to GT.

Nevermind...I see you answered my question in the other thread...wow, I'd have to put over 200# (including my weight) back in the car. :-(

See if you can find a cast iron or lead front bumper structure.

Welcome to the club. Most stock cars run with quite a bit of ballast. My old turbo needed ~100#s of ballast. Kinda puts some of the Sebring times in perspective, eh?

The top running guys are having front bumper structures made of depleted uranium.

BTW, you can't run ballast in the trunk; it has to remain in the passenger compartment.

True Colin...thanks again for your info.

If I decide to go racing one day, the lexan will have to go...but I guess its nice being able to put the ballast where its most beneficial...low.

Actually, I think you can keep the lexan screen, but you will need ballast in the passenger compartment floor.

You could just put me in the drivers seat. I have plenty of ballast.

Why would you get rid of the lexan?

Possibly a bit off-topic, but why do so many PCA "stock" classed cars seem to all need to add ballast? Is there a reason the club doesn't adjust their weights? Seems odd, and possibly unsafe to have to add so much weight back in. As an extreme example, my car runs POC legal at 3100lbs, but to run PCA legally in even the prepared class, I need to add 400 pounds. That scares me to think of how I'd add that much back into my car! (so GT class it is!)
