Is it worth the trouble? Why not the Hargett?

I sat in a car a 911 with the Hargett shifter installed on a 915. The shift tower moved a lot. This may be due to the fact that it mounts to where the parking brake is located.

All I can say is that had to be a crap install... my Hargett was a bitch to install in my G50 930 (ask Dan Jacobs as he did it) but once in it was an absolute piece of artwork in both ergonomics, look, and function.

It was in Clint Smith's car. I doesn't do anything poorly.

Can't imagine why there would be any movement, it's built very well.

I can verify that a proper Hargett install is solid as a rcok. I am the proud owner of Gary's Pumpkin which came with the Hargett as installed by Dan. (930 with a G50 conversion)

The thing is so solid that the transport guy broke the spot weld on the shift rod screwing around trying to get it in reverse to get it out of the truck. Have no idea what he was doing. Anyway, Karl at IA reset it up and rewelded the shift rod and it has been perfect ever since.

I had to tighten a small allen that holds the lever to the mechanism, but I think that was the result of the hamfisted trandport guy wiggling everything around.

After a few track days I like it even more as the lever falls right to hand and is lots better than the stock shifte in my 964 tURBO.

at the beginning of this thread someone mentioned getting rid of plastic ball/cups. Below is thread of how I did it.

Car I'm building had complete RS setup so decided to go that path vs the other shifters for now. RS setup is shifter lever and rod that connects shifter to trans.

I didn't get the Hargett because the web site said one was not available for my car. The Fabcar was some work because we wanted the shifter raised up to a better height and it needed some work to fit in my car with the G50/32 that was being installed. Was it worth it? That's a really subjective question... my car shifts a lot faster but I'm not sure if that's due to the new transmission, the shifter or both. It's placed much better and it gives a solid "thunk" when changing gears. It is sensitive to position (easy to shift 5 to 6 instead of 5 to 4) if not paying attention and you are used to much more play. I didn't pay much extra for the fabrication to get it in as it was a test case for the shop, so, yes it was worth it to me.

Eric, No unfortunately family commitments this weekend. Infineon next weekend and then nothing firm until August. I think Rich, Jerry and the guys like my car because they get to try new stuff and see how it works. I just took it in this morning to have the shock potentiometers installed. Can't wait to test them at Infineon.

They might be willing to do that after you've moved into the 6-figure billing department ...
