If you have inputs to spare; air/fuel, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp aren't bad to know.

I got the DME pin details from the Bentley manual.
I assume I am operating on the DME 7.8 since my car is a 996GT3.

I believe DME is dependent to year rather than model.

The Bentley manual also covers DME 7.8 (which the 2003+ Boxsters use). I can provide the DME pin details to you when I get home in a couple days.

Thanks Toby. Since the GT3 is a 2004 I am 99.99% positive my car is on the 7.8 DME. I don't think it changed again until the 9X7 models came out.

Yes 2003-2005 GT3s use DME 7.8. 1999-2000 uses DME 5.2.2

I'm also VERY interested, for a 997 GT3. Waiting for my Traqmate to arrive. Want to hook up RPM, TPS and brake. (and in the future Brake pressure sensor and steering angle). Per the link provided by 986, the 997 uses Bosch DME, Motronic ME 7.8, sequentielle Multi-Point-Saugrohreinspritzung.

The nice thing about Mr Bosch is that he uses consistant pin assignments across the Motronic range. RPM has been on Pin 6 since the first Porsche Motronic DME in the mid 80s. Likewise TPS has been on the same pin since the 944Turbos in the late 80s. We like that.

APKhaos and 986

If I'm summerizing this correctly below ....

TPS at pin D13, and feed into 5V channel
Brakelight swith at Pin ? and feed into digital channel
RPM at Pin E 6 and feed into ? channel => I presume 5V

Also, any connectors and or wire gage that are recommended ?. I tried Traqmate, but they do not sell any wire and/or connectors.

I really appreciate the all the help !!

I just checked the manual. Tony is correct that DME 7.2 and 7.8 has the same pin assignment, so D13 for TPS, and E6 for ignition coil 1.

When you look at the DME there are 5 connectors (A through E). You can tell how they are ordered by locating Connector D which has 40 pins (vs. 24 pins for connector B).

The color of the TPS wire should be Green/Blue, and ignition coil Green/White. (Both these colors are for DME 7.2) The pin numbers are also molded onto the connectors.

If you use the ignition coil signal for rpm, remember that the coil fires once every 2 revolution of the engine. (Took me a while at first to figure out why my engine was topping out at 3500 rpm...)

Hope this helps.

D13 (TPS#2) is 5V. There is another pin for TPS, but the voltage is too low for my Race Tech logger. I am not sure what is the voltage for the rpm pin.

I tap into brake light directly rather than through the DME. (My DME and brake light are both accessible through my rear trunk )

I use 18AWG wire and plastic splices like this one to tap the wires.

Toby,

Thanks a lot !!. Is there another pin or wire that is usable for RPM, or does tracmate have the capability of just doubling the input. I don't think I can access my brakelight thru the trunk, will have to find another one :-)

Thanks Toby!

I'm using the OBD for RPM. I'll use the DME for TPS. I'll use the brake light directly for brake. I think that is a good start. I just need to make sure I am wiring properly. Last thing I want to do is fry my Traqmate. If anybody has done these using a Traqmate and Traqdata please chime in (cough cough ...Toby )........

Quick question, we are talking about the DME under the driver's seat correct ?. My trackmate/Chasecam combo arrived but had only the RPM sensor, so I had to order additional parts. Also trying to figure out where to mount the Chase cam recorder and Tracmate PU since they have to be within 12 inches of eachother. Being that I have a stock car, I would like to avoid drilling into the car.

p.s. if you leave the antenna under the rear hatch, will it pick up enough of the signals ?. Of course I don't want to drill into my roof, and having the wires to the magnet thru the side windows seems less then ideal
