Was it something I said?

BTW, I am totally overwhelmed..... all this info.......

My PC, like it's owner, is outdated, therefore I decided to buy my son a PS3 for Christmas......so, you know, we can play together.....of course I will be using the logitech G25...

Anyway, which racing game should I buy for the PS3?

I think I will get Super Mario Brothers for my son, but what about GT4?

Better yet, I can call my buddy in Japan and have the GT5 shipped to me before Christmas....

BTW, before I get online I have a lot of learning to do.....

Hey, before you come down with your car i'll spec out the parts to build a new computer that will run anything out there. If your monitor isn't crap I can build it for about $1K. If it IS crap a new Viewsonic 22" LCD flatscreen is under $300 additional.. that way while you son is blasting Miss Pacman you can be racing at Limerock!

You know how to build computers too?..... Unbelievable....

Well, I guess if there is one thing I know how to do, is to pick good friends to hang out with and learn from.....

Sure, spec. it out, it will just become part of my DE budget....

Nice thing about the G25 is that it works with GT5 prologue.

The xbox 360 doesn't support the G25 which is BS. There are a few wheels available including the microsoft one, but there are reliability problems and it isn't that great of a wheel, although it is better than the gamepad.

For the sim junkies, here is one more forum to check out: http://forum.rscnet.org/forum.php

Just emailed you the shopping cart from newegg.com. Complete system with 22" LCD is $1361.06 including new version of Vista 32 (delivered here). Only thing you may want to add is MS Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.), which is $349 for STD and $389 for Premium edition. Think you need Premium for Powerpoint to be included, not sure..

Side benefit - kids that have 'raced' with sims turn out to drive better in the real world (so, tell K and she might support yet another car-related passion for you).
What I haven't yet figured out is how to teach the kids that there is no reset button in real life!

Exactly - I would suggest choosing a sim based on which tracks it supports.
I found it amazing that the GTR concrete patches at Watkins Glen, for example, were identical to the real world (I haven't noticed whether they have updated the sim track now that WGI has been repaved).
My problem with sims (other than the lack of 'feel') is that I never want to sit in front of a computer in my non-work hours. Replacing rotors on the track car, for example, is so much more visceral. But I know there are a lot of folks that enjoy competing on the sims, and have heard that it can really help on the real world tracks. in fact, I think some of the pro drivers keep their skills up by practicing on sims. I'd love to see that.

We got Jeremy a Nintendo Wii because he wants to play Guitar Hero; I wonder if there are sims for the Wii (which might eliminate my criticism of the lack of feel in sims)?
Hmmm... time for some research.

Office budget, not DE budget. Its a computer that happens to play a game once in awhile.
Come on, Doc - work with us here.
(sounds like you are going to have a fun Christmas).

Looks like the PS3 has sims pretty well wrapped up at the moment Rick, and they recently dropped their price by $100. Since it comes with a HD DVD it is actually substantially less than a similarly equipped XBOX 360 now... The fact that the G25 will work with it is a pretty good point (for me!) too, and even the $70 Logitech wheel for it looks pretty good. And YEAH, adding "Office" Premium makes it an Office expense!!

Well, without us, you would probably see more patients, get rich, and have way less fun.
