I saw that...maybe it's coincidence but Dick Dobson had an ECU scanner and was pulling in quite a few OBD-II cars for checks. He explained to me that PCA now has a service that they can compare the programming in the ECU to what originally came with the car via the VIN.

Good for them! I was a tech inspector for APBA Offshore and use to do this with the Mercury scan tool for F1-2-3 and E class. I always found issues. We also had a ECU swap rule too.

Don't understand why people want to cheat in a gentlemen's sport. I'll just assume they were unaware.
That's one good thing about NASA, is weight/HP. I know that still leaves a lot of room for set-up, etc., but it's a good start.
Don't see how bringing a gun to a knife fight gives a lot of good feelings or bragging rights for victories.

I would be careful making assumptions as to why people were DQ'd. It doesn't mean that the person intentionally cheated. For example, everyone tries to get to as low a weight as possible. If you make a mistake, or if the scales at the race are different than they are at your shop, you could bd Dq'd for weight despite not trying to cheat.
That may not be what happened here (and I have never been DQ'd), but don't assume mal intent solely from a DQ without additional facts about what happened and why.

Whewww.. I'm glad my car broke so they didn't check my chip..
Oops, did I just say that out loud??
I'm jappy to hear the scruts are they're doing this.

I concur with TD, lets not make judgements without the details. The only time I was DQ'd was at the Glen a couple of years ago. They closed the pits at the 1hr mark in the 90 min enduro to clean up a crash, kept the field lapping under double yellow and then checkered the race 15 minutes early. They then DQ'd a whole bunch of folks (10+) who hadn't made their mandatory 5 min stop including me. This happened in two of the Enduro races.

One big reason I stopped racing SCCA, was the outright cheatin, and overworked volunteer Scruteeners... I needed to get an illegal gear box to win, and it wasn't how I wanted to win.... for $20 trophies.
how are things are different in PCA...
edit: (I really hope they are different in PCA!)

Chris / TD;
I don't think the direction of this thread is to accuse anyone involved- but a general acknowledgement that there "seem to be" a lot of doctored PCA race cars.

When spending $30 or $40k+ per year to race for $20 trophies (or no trophies!), there is an incentive to do what you have to do to win in order to justify the expenditure. Compound that with people seeing their race cars as an "investment" who's value must maintained by achieving good results. Look in any of the publications where people are selling anything from their bargain basement 944's to half-million dollar GT1 cars who list all of the wins, fastest laps, and podiums in an effort to get a good price...
Good for the scruts if they're busting people on chips. However, I'm with Cris and TD - let's not jump to too many conclusions without more data.
When will PCA publish DQ reasons and 13's? Part of the problem, perhaps?
