Default Hankook's vs Hoosier's

I have been running R-6's and am considering the Hankook's. Any thoughts on this?

My experience with Hankook's is they heat cycle -out- much before cording. I never really came to grips (pun intended) with them.

I ran them last year and like them. It seems that drivers either like them or not. I've been told that they reward certain driver styles - what they are I don't know. In my case, I think they're as fast as the R6's, last longer (my last set was on its 16th heat cycle and still fast), cost less, and as a bonus, they have a great continguency program if you race.

They also run much higher pressures than the R6s, I like about 38-39lbs hot with my car (2900 lb 944).

I have driven a BMW with them (the Z214's) and was very impressed. Guys I know who race with them say they get faster & faster with more heat cycles. I fact, one guy was setting track records at Road Atlanta on their 16th heat cycle!

Wow, PerFessor - don't hold back.
Really - some of the 944 Cup guys ran them this year w/ good results, I think the first couple of places at Nationals. might work better for lighter cars? What's your experience with them, Professor?

I ran them for a few races in my F class 911 and loved them. I got two full race weekends (mid ohio and Watkins Glen) out of them, which was about 20 heat cycles. I ran my fastest time ever at the Glen (2:13.9) on the 15th heat cycle.

Kooks work well on my 2600lb car, set my personal best and TTB track record after 6 days of use (around 24 heat cycles; 225/45-15). Wish they made a 245/50-15!

My last set of hankooks only got 12 good heat cycles and 3 after that and then were useless. Maybe I will have better luck with this set. Or maybe I need to do the initial heat cycle?

About 4 years ago...don't remember specifically which compound in a 205-15 sneaker on a 2100 lb. car. Seems to 'heat-cycle out' early...sorta like the old Goodyear GS-CS's did - anything beyond 5-6 heat cycles and they were stones.

What I am liking is the support for for both PCA and NASA at regular weekends and the nationals. I am currently running 245/285-18" and Hankook's only come in 275's. I think a lot of tire life is how hard they are run in the early cycles. I got great times out of a 16 hc R-6 and have had them cycle out before 10!

ran them back to back on a 944S at Sebring, the Hoosiers where several seconds a lap faster.

I wonder if there are some setup differences between the two tires?

interesting, i ran them back to back against hoosiers and bfg's...hankooks and bfgs were both faster than hoosiers..."useful" life of the hankooks is also longer than the hoo-hoo's and significantly longer than the bfg's

this is on a 95 M3 race car that weighs just under 3k lbs with driver running 245/40/17 all around...
