Robin-
Since the CGT is no longer in production how can PAG use the engine (unless they stuff it into the Panemera)?
I thought the Panemera was getting a version of the Cayenne V8.

well, the Panamera would suit the V10, and there is a 5 year grandfathering clause in FIA homologation rules.
actually, I suspect the C-GT engine is 'banned' from racing for a very good and undisclosable reason.... but PAG's new engine plant in Hungary will supply a nice new V10.

Where in Hungary is it?

I'm going there next August ( F1) maybe I can line a tour up?

sorry Eddie - that remark was heavily 'ironic' - there is a very nice engine plant in Györ, which isn't much of a place otherwise. Head out onto the Hungarian Steppes (pusztas) for an 'interesting' time.

To give you a 'flavour' of the way the new GT1 and GT2 classes could be regulated, here are some of the regulations applied to the existing GT3 class upon which the new regulations based -

3.3 Aerodynamic devices
The Bureau of the FIA Grand Touring Commission reserves the right to adjust the characteristics of the rear aerodynamic device (wing) of any car in order to maintain the balance of performance between the cars.

ARTICLE 4 : WEIGHT
4.1 Minimum weight

The Bureau of the FIA Grand Touring Commission reserves the right to adjust the minimum weight of any car in order to maintain the balance of performance between the cars.

5.1 Engine control unit
The FIA Technical Delegate may at any time oblige the competitor to use the reference unit registered with the FIA by the Manufacturer.

5.2 Intake system
5.2.1) The intake system is defined by the assembly comprising the restrictor(s) (if applicable) and the manifold up to the intake ports on the cylinder head(s).
5.2.2) All the air feeding the engine must pass through the homologated air restrictors (if applicable), and no pipe containing air is permitted to enter or to exit from the intake system.

5.2.3) The Bureau of the FIA Grand Touring Commission reserves the right to adjust the diameter of these air restrictors (if applicable) in order to maintain the balance of performance between the cars.

6.2 Fuel capacity
The Bureau of the FIA Grand Touring Commission reserves the right to adjust the capacity of the fuel tank in order to maintain the balance of performance between the cars.

9.1 Transmission system
For cars fitted with a semi-automatic or automatic gearbox, and/or a power-driven clutch with electronic or pneumatic control, the FIA Technical Delegate may at any time oblige the competitor to use the reference unit(s) registered with the FIA by the manufacturer.

10.1 Ride height
The Bureau of the FIA Grand Touring Commission reserves the right to adjust the ride height in order to maintain the balance of performance between the cars.

10.3 Power steering
For cars fitted with an automatically variable power steering, the FIA Technical Delegate may at any time oblige the competitor to use the reference unit registered with the FIA by the manufacturer.

11.2 Anti-lock braking and power braking
For cars fitted with anti-lock and/or automatically variable power braking systems, the FIA Technical Delegate may at any time oblige the competitor to use the reference unit registered with the FIA by the manufacturer.

12.1 Dimensions
The Bureau of the FIA Grand Touring Commission reserves the right to adjust the width of the complete wheels in order to maintain the balance of performance between the cars. Measurements will be taken horizontally at axle centre line height.

How the blance of Performance is calculated

BALANCE OF PERFORMANCE

69. In order to maximise equality of performance, the Bureau reserves the right to adjust the following for each competitor, at any time during the
Championship:
- a) minimum weight of the car (Article 257A - Technical Regulations)
- b) air restrictor sizes (Article 257A - Technical Regulations)
Any changes to restrictor sizes must be made within 20 days (including the day of notification) after the date of notification of the FIA’s official decision. If the
deadline falls in the middle of an Event, then the change must be made for the beginning of that Event.
- c) also, in order to balance performances in a fair way, the Bureau reserves the right (under the conditions specified in paragraph b)) to introduce, for
each of the competitors, any other technical restriction it may deem necessary.
With the aim of quantifying this optimisation, the FIA reserves the right to ask each competitor to provide
the following information:
a) the characteristics of the tyres
b) the weight and distribution of mass
c) the power curve
d) the drag
e) the lift
f) the lift distribution
g) the gear ratios of the Gearbox and Differential

This information will be used to simulate the lap times and performances of the cars on all the circuits in the Championship.

So you see, its vital that the factory/team keep their homologation/car/documentation/reference units properly aligned.
