Richard: A great lawyer can overcome a good waiver any day. Do you really think that paper we sign in darkenss at 6 AM with several hundred other people in 30 ish minutes is worth the paper it's printed on. At the last event I attended the waiver was signed by Danika Patrick and AJ Foyt!! Funny, I didn't see either one at the track that day.

Waivers are not useless no matter how good some of my colleagues may be.

As for the people signing the waivers as Danika Patrick and AJ Foyt, those are the people who should get a good smack in the chops. Either they are the ones who would sue and claim that they weren't covered by the waiver (which is slimy since they were asked to sign it and made people believe that they were signing) or their little joke will be used by someone else suing in order to argue that the waivers weren't enforced. In either event it isn't funny. You are asked to sign the waiver to get in. If you don't want to sign it, don't come in, but don't be a douchebag and trick everyone into thinking that you signed it when you really didn't.

sorry for the little rant, but that kind of stuff is irksome. we need to be adults when it comes to this stuff or we may no longer have the opportunity to have as much fun as if we were kids.

Hi Todd.

Hey, last year I signed in at Lime Rock Park right after P.L. Newman!

The clock is ticking on this one. When we enact our millionth law, people will have to give up on trying to keep track of them all and we will be able to prove that it is medically impossible to not be ignorantia.

I apologize for my absurdity.

If I were an organizer and found that behavior, I would make those individuals stand in their own registration line at the next event, then force them to read the waiver out loud. After missing a session or two, then send them into town with a waiver and tell them they get in after they sign and have it notarized.

You almost have to pull everyone off track until the goof ***** fess up, a la elementary school, or take the time and figure out who didn't sign and then ban them from your events.

Td: Useless is too strong a word. Just not very helpful when the stakes get high. Ask the plastic surgeons whose video waivers (consents) are routinely pierced. Surprising changes in testimony as the dollar signs get larger.

While your characterization of those who register at driving event with a farcical alias is accurate it also ilustrates the relative lack of value of such "waivers".

The method is print and sign, print and sign. It is possible to try reading the printed names, check them off the master attendee list, and see who is missing. Research by car and car number, find them in the paddocks, remove run sticker from windshield.

Possible. A lot of these events have volunteer workers. Can we expect 100% accuracy with this stuff?

Any of you guys can volunteer to help validate the waiver forms the next time you are at the track. I can't imagine anyone turning down a helping hand. Now you can help fight forged waivers, one signature at a time!

If tom jones signes "the waiver" as danica patrick at the front gate of sebring at 6 AM without consequence, then the waiver process is tainted. Not necessarily a biggie; just don't put false hope hope into a very limited piece of paper.

I've seen NNJR use a waiver pre printed with the names of the registrants...you have to sign in your box. Problem solved.

I have seen this with some other orgs as well. But when the signature Danica Patrick appears in Tom Jones' box, Tom Jones will still say that he didn't sign any waiver. The registration folks have to consistently watch and make sure that they sign on the right line. Then it becomes a forgery issue.

Our club does that too, and the signatures are monitored by the registrars. No one can sign something funny and then walk away, or be in attendance without signing.

Same with CVR. At the main gate to LRP, you print and sign yourself, but inside control before you get your wrist band, you have to sign in next to your pre-typed name -- and Nancie never misses
