My 928 needs shocks. My goal is to race in NASA 944 Supercup and I only want to do this once.
I'm looking for double adjustable coilovers without reservoirs. Other than good reviews from BMW/VW/Nissan forums I haven't found much info about Advance Design shocks. I've found more info about Leda's quality, but the company's survival is questionable and they raised their prices drastically recently. People have recommended Penske and Moton (including a Leda owner at Summit Point last weekend), but they are well out of my price range.
Anybody have information, opinions, recommendations to help me make the choice?

My original budget for shocks and springs was under-$2k. That seems a bit low/unrealistic now.
JRZ RS seems to be ~$3000 for other cars, but I haven't priced them for a 928. Ledas are ~$2300 with springs ($1700-something before) and Advance Designs are ~$1600 (plus springs). That doesn't include upper front mounts and various bushings/bearings.

Penskes are similarly priced to Motons. Neither one of them is known for reservoir-less shocks.
Koni DA 28-series racing shocks are too expensive ($4500 for 944). Koni yellows are not available for 928s. Koni reds can be converted, but several 928 owners have had horrible experiences with Koni lately. Valving (even when rebuilt by Koni) is extremely soft and inconsistent. Even without the problems with Konis, reds with 2.5" spring adapters without being revalved/converted are $1400+ which is not much cheaper than Advance Design.

Moton DA with cannister for a 968 ran about 3100. I came from SA Leda's and am much happier with the Motons. What about Cross?

I'm with Mike. Very happy thus far with my Moton club sports which I have had on my 968 for a full year now. The JRZ's and Penske's are more expensive than the Motons.

I've been doing some online part pricing while watching the ALMS race and Motons are just too expensive unless I can get them for closer to the Leda price of $2300.

Matt, I'm wondering if you may need to look outside the box here. Both the front and rear bottom shock mounts can be made to work with Heim joints. The top could too with a plate welded or bolted to the car with something on it to accept the race shock tops. I have seen it done with the rear of that blue 928 race car that was for sale.

Russ, JIC looks interesting, although the threaded heim joint for height adjustment worries me. Do you have experience with them?
Brendan, I am planning on spherical bearings top and bottom. I'd prefer the bottoms have a welded loop with a spherical bearing inside instead of a heim joint.

why bother trying to turn the 928 into a track beast, its a great street car, one of the best Gran Turismo ever. All you will do is make it less pleasant on the street.
However, shock absoprbers should be replaced on a regular basis, just fitting good quality relacements from Bilstein/Koni/KW may achieve what you need.

I think he said he was planning to race it, and only wants to buy shocks once.
Having taken the half-fast route, I can agree that it's ONLY a waste of time and money to buy equipment that's not up to the ultimate you plan to throw at it.
On-topic, I love my Bilsteins, they're absurdly durable (touching on lap record speeds after 6 whole seasons of racing, without service!) and almost as cheap as the street shocks (Konis or Bilsteins)... of course, they are not adjustable - have to be revalved by Bilstein. I also don't know what fitment options there are for the 928.
