I need a new steering wheel in my race car. (race only).

Years ago I got lucky and my 944 came with a Momo steering wheel. Leather (not suede). I have been using it for 7 years and its has been aging. Right now the covering has split on the inside seam and has been cutting in to my leather gloves. I have nasty hole in my right thumb and one wearing into the left one too. So I need to new gloves, but don't want cut them on the old wheel.
So advice for wheels?

I have a momo adapter. Do I need to get a momo wheel? Do only Momo's fit? (I am assuming that they are the only ones).

I have a good quality suede wheel that has lasted several years (5) without showing any signs of impending doom. I use suede gloves with it, and find the sued grips the suede VERY well. After about 8 years, my gloves have started developing holes and will need to be replaced this winter.

I like my alcant wheel with cloth gloves because of the grip...but I think its very different based on your car as some need the ablility to slide a bit easier to catch unexpected slips more than others ( I know my 996tt doesnt often require quick catch and release persay very often...so the grip just helps) Plus, if you have your hands stationary vs shuffling, I think that would matter as well...maybe leather wheel with cloth gloves for a shuffler... god question though...

my experience is that suede gloves and suede wheel are the best. It's sort of like velcro but much less on/off.

Suede wheel and leather gloves (or vice versa) is a little slippery.

Leather wheel and leather gloves is very grippy (especially if you treat the palms with Lexol) but it's a tacky kind of grip and is sometimes not so great for shuffle steering.

Sparco wheels will fit on the MOMO adapters. I have model 383 and I love it. I also have sparco suede gloves. Grip is never a problem. Just make sure whatever diameter you go with doesn't block your view of the temp gauge.

I went from leather and leather to suede and suede and it's heaven. The difference in grip is night and day. I use a Sparco wheel with a Momo adapter.

I have a suede Momo Mod .07 wheel that I use with suede Sparco gloves. The tactility is superb.

+ 1........Suede wheel and gloves. My ride is at the mechanics at the moment but there is a nice MOMO wheel with nice to minimal dish for 944's. I think it is the mod 78 in 350 mm. I will see if I can find the box at home tonight.

I had suede in my supervee a few years ago and then switched to my 911 that has a leather one. I thought the suede was much grippier(sp?)

Joe as far as I can tell the aftermarket wheels are pretty universal. My two cars both have Momo adapters, but one has a Momo and one has a Dino wheel. Looking at the quick release adapters they sell it seems they all have the same 6 screw attachment method.

Suede sparco wheel with suede Sparco gloves combo +3. It IS like velcro.

If you get the smaller diameter Sparco wheel (320mm vs. the 330mm), you will benefit from quicker steering , though with mildly increased steering effort.

Hey Joe;

Suede Sparco with smooth leather Alpinestars. Superior grip without being sticky. I can slide if I want without sticking, but hold on with little effort at all. I can also drive without gloves with essentially the same result.

The Alpinestar gloves are superior to everything I've tried, by far.

Confirmed it, MOMO mod 78 350mm in suede. It was the replacement wheel that was spot on for size ect. in my friends Rothman's Cup.

I use soft leather gloves on a suede cup wheel, which works great for me whether i set and hold or shuffle in tight corners (no power steering).

I use both a Momo Race in leather and a Sabelt (suede? rubber?) and suede faced gloves, I actually like the shape of the Momo better (thanks Wanye D. for letting me drive your 993 with one) and as far as grip both are fine but i'm a mediocre driver...
