Three Wheelin'
I apologize for speaking too soon. Track will be repaved T-Thurs, with NASA racing on new surface this coming weekend. Sounds crazy, but I hear they did it the same way 8 years ago.

I just got home from the FATT today. The new asphalt is awesome!!! They did a pretty good job filling in around the edges of the track so there isnt much of a dropoff. The curbs that were elevated got paved over so that the track meets them and the flat curbs (like outside turn 3) were simply paved over. There was a lot of dirt on the edges of the track, but I assuem that because they didnt have much time to pack the fill dirt down. Its weird turning in for 1 or 5 and not hitting that concrete transition. The bump on the outside of 9 isnt 100% gone, but its not nearly as bad as it was before. Also the bump on the inside of 10 is gone. There are also some areas that got more pavement added like various parts of the front straight. THe track is fast. A friend was timing laps 3 seconds per lap faster than his previous best. I have a feeling that there are going to be some track records this weekend. Now I just have to go pick my car up since it broke down on the way home.

I just got a voice mail from Jeff Curits and he dropped 2 seconds off his best time for a 1:23:5x for the win in GTS2. Congrats!!
2 seconds! I can't wait to get back there for Potomac in Nov.

I was there with NASA also, everyone was 1.5 - 2 seconds faster. They haven't replaced the curbing yet -- most of it was covered over. The only bumps I really noticed are the ones after the apex on T9, they are still there. The braking zones are AWESOME, especially T5!!!!! The surface is very grippy, it will be interesting to see if it stays that way. T4 is flat out now for many lower HP cars, no lift.

I wish I could have been on track this weekend. The cup broke the track record twice saturday!!! it was insane, literally "how low can you go." I hope it stays this way, but I'll give the track a full season before it starts to become slum it again (I hope I'm wrong).

The new track surface is very fast.... wicked fast! Last weekend at the PCA Summit race prior to the new paving I ran a 1:19.7. This weekend at the NASA race I ran a 1:18.1. NASA races are generally slower lap times because of the slower traffic and number of cars too. Prior NASA races I could only run high 1:20's to low 1:21's. I think I have some 1:17's in the making???
