Everyone I know who runs a Euro SC in "F" has either had to do a rebuild due to a mis-shift (5th >2nd), top end, or trans synchros.

Sure they are fast, but are they fragile?

For that matter, the 944 turbo in "F"..........

No different in those aspects than any other SC (like a G car) which will run forever if you don't misshift (engine damage), speed shift (tranny damage), or float the valves by going waaay above redline. All of those issues you mention are driver error. Get some WEVO shifter and tranny parts and that'l protect you against misshifts.

I don't think that they are fragile at all. The top ends need to be done after 100K because the valve guides go, but other than that no worries. The 915s are not particularly strong, syncro-wise and the shifters are not very accurate...but I raced my 84 Carrera for 15 years with a stock shifter and never did the money shift. If you can get steel syncros and install a Wevo shifter, I don't think that it will be an area of concern.

I owned an SC before my Boxster and never had a shift problem. I have had more problems with Fuller Road Rangers when I was a kid. Frankly I have missed more shifts In the 987s then the (new to me) F class SC.
I think a lot of it is getting the linkage adjusted correctly. I think I might be the Idiot Savant at that.

The Euro SC has the 9.8:1 comp. pistons and a smaller margin for error on mis-shifts than the 78&79 SC 8.5:1 comp. motors. The problem is magnified with uprgraded cams in DE cars. The 80-83 SC has 9.3:1 comp.

Overall, I would say as long as you are running below 7200 RPM The SC motor is very robust and last a long time between rebuilds.

They're not very good on the street either. I will extend my offer from the 996 thread for Euro SC's in F as well.

Actually, some of the fastest guys in PCA F have fallen victim to the 5th > 2nd missed downshift. More common than you think.

The only guy i know who runs a Euro motor in F class flies around the track and does not seem to have motor or trans problems with his car.

I would say that the only thing that makes an SC more fragile than a pre 87 Carrera is its lack of rev limiter. It also helps it go faster and be more flexible around the track.

944s have their issues as well. I know of at least 5 racers who had to deal with broken a-arms or hubs since March.
