I've been running an SC on the track since 1989 and never had this problem. If the linkage is well maintained and adjusted .... and if you don't try to slam shift the thing ..... no problems. Since there have been almost no G cars to race with this year, I was seriously considering making the Euro conversion and move up to F.

Could someone please explain to me the advantage of steel synchros over whatever is normally in an SC tranny?

Dave, what's involved in a Euro conversion? Is it just the engine changes or are there chassis changes as well.

I loved my Euro SC. It was a blast on the track (DE's only) and the engine itself is virtually bulletproof, so far as I could tell. Mine also had it's original 915 transmission and I never had a problem. These cars are getting old (~25 years) and some have legs on them so the need to replace synchros can probably be expected. Wish I hadn't sold it. Oh well...

If you are starting with an '80 - '83 SC, you just need the pistons and then readjust the fuel. If you have an early SC with the large intake tubes, they need to be changed to the later (smaller ID) part. No chasis or tranny change is needed as long as you are starting from an SC.

On long runs (60+ min) during hot days, my stock synchros start to overheat, and it becomes harder to change gears without grinding them. I've been told that steel synchros solve this problem.

This is in a G50 transmission, not a 915.

Interesting that anytime you make engine mod's you get bumped to GT but in this case because there's a similar production model you can do it.

Is consensus that it's better to have a USA SC converted to Euro running as F or a USA SC with stock motor but bigger brakes, slotted suspension points, 2" wider wheels, flaring, R & P and other allowable prepared mod's running in F?

This is a good thread on the subject. There is alot of misinformation out there about the different SC engine configurations. You can see why there is the potential for mixing and matching of components.

What adds to the confusion are the the cars racing in PCA that are mislabled. EX. Hupfer's car is labled a F stock 79 SC(which is a G car) but he runs it as a 81-83 Euro SC.
I am not saying there is anything illegal about his car, just that it is mislabled.
