Default Monterey Historics - PICS

Better late than never. Of interest:

- Porsches, Porsches & more Porsches!
- cable operated brakes on vintage Bugattis
- extra set of spark plugs in vintage Bugatti cockpit (tools too)
- Drum brakes with internal cooling fan on early Vette racer
- Amazing collection of OLD Bentley racers
- You think the paddock was impressive - take a look at the pics from the parking lot!
- Can Am cars that literally shake the pavement like NHRA top fuel dragsters... What a series that must have been.

This event is a "must attend" for motorsports enthusiasts. Looking forward to next year.

Awesome. Was there for the races and auctions last weekend. Had a blast! Those races were amazing. I was there for practice when the GT500's, Shelby Cobras, Ferrari's were going around the track. Earth shattering exhausts...the smell of burned brakes, racing fuel...umm...a track junky's wet dream.

Ended up bringing home a '68 911S as well.

Great pics! Can't wait until next year. Maybe I'll get the old man to enter his 300SLR.

I've often heard that the "racing" at the Historics really isn't racing at all, just a high speed parade. As a driver in the event, what's your take on that?

There are some guys out there that are pretty much cruising . but I would have to say 60-70% of us are racing. I know I almost got taken out at the start as plenty of the drivers were real agressive going into the hairpin at 2, and everyone saw the Capri out there up on two wheels numerous times.... many a 935 boost **** was turned .No , I think most of the guys are competative and drive pretty hard but also drive smart as these cars are pretty rare and no one want to see them beat up.
At the Pre's there was some carnage with some agressive driving

buy the movie the Warhorse Gang and watch the video of the IMSA race at the 1998 Monterey Historics that is at the end. Monte Shelton and Fitzpatrick battling it out .. then someone tell me that they don't race at the Monterey Historic's You can see the in car with Fitz almost cranking the boost **** right off !
