What are your opinions on the following tires and balancing? As you can see, there is HEAVY build-up on the tires (Dunlops). Should I attempt to scrape this away before balancing?
I've read that a torch taken to a scraper (NOT to the the tire) will remove this somewhat, but I cant imagine elbow grease still involved....and then I have also heard about doing donuts on wet pavement to remove the build-up. Thoughts?

A couple 100 miles on th street cleans them up nicely.

I thought that street driving would clean them up , but worried that the slicks would be damaged in transit somehow. Thanks for your input...love your car by the way, Larry.

Thanks. Your car looks very nice too. My son has a red 993 with the same front spoiler and some brand of rear wing.
Though the "drive them on the street" comment was tongue-in-cheek, it really will clean them up. You do have a highly increased chance of a puncture, and forget it if it rains, but I have a friend who is too lazy to put his streets back on his GT3, and so he has gotten many miles out of his worn slicks that way.

We use a hot air paint stripper on the rubber, takes about 30-60 min to clean 4 tires. Even between sessions we remove the pickup.
It is worth the effort to keep the car balanced.

Rob, drive the **** out of that car and the blobs will take care of themselves
If you were racing and wanted perfect balance that'd be a different story. But you're DE'ing, and those blobs will just help extend the tire's life as they melt in and redistribute over the course of the tire.
